My name is Bob Blaylock, and I am very new to offroading.

In half a year, I obtained my very first offroad-capable vehicle, and managed to get it totaled.  Got its successor a few weeks later, when the insurance money came in on the first.

Current vehicle is a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, with the 3.2-liter V6.  I didn't realize it when I bought it, and I don't think the dealer did either, but it turns out to have a lift on it, of a few inches.

Hi Bob and Welcome!

It was great to see you at a previous meeting too!

Trailhawks come with a 1" lift over stock.  Does your Trailhawk have an additional lift too?

You also have a 1" taller tire I believe and you should have over 10" of ground clearance too.

Yes, it turns out, that there is some additional lift over what is stock for a Trailhawk.  Probably about two inches.

Some coverage of this in a thread over on the Cherokee forum, about the fate of its predecessor and the transition to this one.

  https://www.jeepcherokeeclub.c.....s/3068404/

And the tires are slightly bigger than stock as well.  205/70R17 instead of the stock 205/65/R17.

It hadn't really occurred to me until someone on that other forum asked about it.  My wife had grumbled that it seemed a bit more of a climb to get in and out of it than its predecessor did, which had us both wondering if, perhaps it was a bit taller than its predecessor.  I hadn't thought much beyond assuming that if it was taller, that that was just a difference between the 2017 model, and the 2020 model.

But it turns out that I have visually verified and photographed objects on the rear suspension, which someone on that other forum confirmed are lift spacers.

So long as you two are able to comfortably get in to and out of your rig, the extra lift will come in handy.  Trailhawks also have some additional under body protection and front and rear recovery points.  Beyond that, I don't know much about the model specifics.

I'd have to see your tires and if they are more All Terrain or road mannered to see if you'd enjoy a snow run, which we should have coming up.  I'd suggest participating in one of the road patrols since we drive to a base camp and then work from there.

Look for those on this forum from Kris, our trail master as he sets up the dates.

Glad you made it on to the forum Bob! I wheeled with a 2017 trailhawk at Prairie City SVRA and the lower front air dam/bumper was removable with quick access clips to increase front clearance. Check your manual or the interwebs and see if yours might!

Welcome Bob! Nice looking rig... looks like a fun time! Sounds like there are a few Easter eggs hidden along the way. I scanned a couple videos and it looks like a bit of a sleeper (plus it looks like a bull shark):

You should have some fun on a road patrol!  Hopefully you can make one this winter.  Be sure to check the calendar and forum once Kris gets them up here.
