Thought I'd formally introduce myself. I'm Gerald and I camped next door to a lot of you folks at Sierra Trek last week. I hope my crazy group of friends didn't bother you too much...lol. I had a blast on the Thursday Fordyce run. I'm amazed that I didn't break anything, much more difficult than what it was since the last time I ran it. Thank you for giving us the information on Outer Limits, it was an enjoyable outing and a much needed break from the hardcore stuff. I just moved back to El Dorado County from Colorado via Montana after being away for about 10 years. Colorado Jeep trails are awesome, but the Rubicon and Fordyce will always be my favorites. Folks say I'm crazy to move back to California, but to me it's going back home to the trails I love. Once I get settled in, I plan on attending the club meetings and get involved with the 4x4 community in the area again. Thanks again for being so welcoming at Sierra Trek.

It appears that my rear locker was not working probably due to an air leak in the diff or a solenoid problem. After I crossed the river at committee crossing on the way out I broke the front passenger side G2 chromoly axel shaft right at the neck of the splines while climbing a ledge. We didn't know what the problem was at the time other than the fact that I had no front wheel drive but my front driveshaft was still spinning when I engaged the front atlas shifter. Some thought it was a ring and pinion issue but there was no noise or grinding sound when moving. Spoke to Rob on the phone that day to see if he could bring parts. He thought, based on all the symptoms, that I sheared the pinion shaft. Seemed very logical as I have a Dana 30 and the shaft could be the weak link. After a lot more diagnostic work and talking to people we decided to open up the diff and take a look. Found the brass air line for the locker broken at both ends but no other damage. Pulled the short (drivers side) axel shaft and that was fine. Pulled the long (passenger side) shaft and it was broken at the neck at the splines. It was twisted as were some of the splines. So in order to fix it now, I need the lockers serviced and need a new shaft and seal on the passenger side. Or upgrade or both (fix it for now and upgrade to a front Dana 44 or front and rear axel upgrades. Decisions, decisions.
I pulled my records and I have had that shaft for 12 years. I believe the warranty is 10 years on that shaft. I will confirm with WFO who did the original work to see if I can get a free replacement.

Wow, that a bummer. Did you get out ok using rear only?? Changing axles is a costly affair. I was fortunate given all the circumstances, & it was expensive at that! Hopefully, it'll work out. Keep us all informed.

I only had 2WD and was towed over many of the obstacles by a buggy. He also came very close to pulling my Jeep over on the driver's side because he kept pulling when I was way off camber. I was honking my horn and yelling at the top of my lungs and he didn't hear me. Fortunately he glanced back and hit the brakes when he saw how off camber I was.

Hello everyone - I wasn't able to attend any meetings last year. A couple of weeks after Sierra Trek, I was running the Rubicon and broke by front ring/pinion. It took me a while to repair it as it took out the factory locker too. New Yukon gears, ARB locker, Artec truss and C gussets and I'm ready for some snow wheeling. I forgot the club member's name that I lent my front axle shaft to and was wondering if he got it replaced. I could use the axle for a spare for myself or lend out again. Does someone know his name and how I can contact him? Thanks!
