Hello everyone!

My name is Dolan. My wife and I just got ourselves a new toy and have been playing around with it. This group looks pretty active, that's great!

We are both pretty new to 4x4ing, but we're willing/wanting to learn more.

I think that we will only be able to do pretty simple trails for now. I don't know that we'll ever take our monster rock crawling.

Anyhow, what's the next event?

Dolan

Hi Dolan, welcome. Our next event is tomorrow. We're heading up to Strawberry Trail for our twice a year maintenance. Check out the trail runs forum for more info if you're interested in going.

Thanks Fred! I saw that you are all going up to Strawberry Trail today. I wish I could make it, but I have a "honey to do list". Next time!

BKGM Jeepers, surely you have an easier name! What part of EDH? I'm close to Serrano Parkway and EDH Blvd.

Justin, thanks!

John, I got a 1998 Ford Expedition 4x4. I won't be joining you on any narrow trails.

I have a 1997 Expedition that I keep looking at and thinking of throwing a straight axle under and a few other mods to give me something to get back on the trails. You are right about skipping the narrow trails, but it could be a very comfortable family snow run rig though.

Howdy!

I just moved from Folsom. 🙂

I haven't gone on the trails with anyone yet, but I have found some trails that my Exp can handle. I definately hit every tree on the edge, but whatever! We should get together and do some simple trails by my house, if you're interested.

Most trails near EDH will be loaded with Manzanita (sp?). Go higher to get better trails like near Iron Mtn road.

I really don't wheel the Expy much anymore. Thats why I bought a Jeep 12 years ago cause they Expy was just too big 😀 Plus the Expy will now become a daily driver again in the next few weeks if I can sell off my Dually (anyone need a dually?)and I hate to wheel a DD. Like Brad had mentioned all the dirt roads off MET would be cool to explore and I would be up for that, but taking the Expy up to a trail like Strawberry or Hell Hole would be a no go. Now if you want to take your Expy up to Strawberry and see if you can make it let me know and I will ride shotgun for the entertainment. 😛

I still have a lot to learn before I take on any "real" trails. I have been getting to know the Expy and trying out small hills and rocks. It's done great, so far. But then again, I don't have much to compare it to. 🙂

Good for you. You've gotta start somewhere. You'll learn as you go. Focus on recovery as your inexpensive initial investments and then be sure you bring a buddy. A $40 recovery strap can go a long way!

That's funny. I was wondering what you were talking about. I figured it was some special 4x4 code that I didn't catch.
