Hey everybody. I just started wheeling and thought it'd be a good idea to join a local club. I spend most of my time backpacking in the forests, but now that I have a jeep, I'd like to explore a little more on 4-wheels and bring the family along occasionally. I've got an '03 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4.7HO, Quadradrive with some minor mods (very minor) and 31" tires. I've gone a little backwoods wheeling locally and ran up Plummer Ridge with the family a month or so ago on 29" tires. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to being a part of the forum/club and meeting everyone.

Nice, welcome!! I too love to backpack. Where do you hike generally?
I stick to the Sierra mostly. I usually take a week off every year and bag some mountaineer peaks. I've got around 50 on my bucket list. Went in to Evolution Valley last year. This year we went in to Little Lakes Valley and did Abbot and Dade.
So how do I become an official member. I work an odd work schedule and it looks like I'll be working for most of the meetings. I've got a couple buddies with very capable rigs I may be able to bring along too.
I noticed the trail maintenance on Strawberry in a few weeks. I'd love to test out my rig, but I don't think it's quite ready yet. Anyhow, I hope to be a part of the maintenance crew. I've got a few chainsaws and lots of other tools that I can bring.

Well, this link can explain how it works better then I can typing it out. https://posse4x4.org/about-us/bylaws/ Basically, you need to attend to meetings and two events to become a prospect. Then 3 meetings and 3 events in a years time will get you pending member status. I've never been faced with someone who can't make meetings, but come on some runs and get to know the club.
The strawberry run is a great mid trail, but I do want to emphasis that it is a "maintenance" run. So if your rig isn't up to the task, it may be best to grab a seat in a buddies rig. The trail is currently closed do to the El Dorado National Forest law suit going on, so this is one of the two times a year we have access to the trail for non members.
Evolution Valley sounds amazing. I'd like to go there someday. I mainly have been completing sections of the PCT over the last 3 years. I love it!! Iv'e done section K,L, and J.
Um...what?

Would one of you be willing to organize a trail exploration hike off of the strawberry trail? We would need to get some trail tape and have you hike/mark a spur trail we'd like the USFS to consider reopening.

I originally started a hiking group of old buddies to do the PCT, but with only a few vacation weeks a year it was going to be too cumbersome to get the mileage in when you had to spend a few days in the car to get to the trail. So instead we just bag peaks every year. The PCT is definitely a bucket list item for me though. Congrats on the parts you've done, it's beautiful country!

Sounds like fun, I love blazing trails. Organizing the whole thing may be a bit of an undertaking, but I'd like to help out!
I went up to Gold Lake with a few friends over the last couple days. That place is beautiful and has some nice trails I was able to explore in the WJ. Even climbed a pretty sweet boulder and pushed the WJ a little further than I thought possible. Only a little rash on the lower rear bumper and a small scrape on the exhaust for my effort too.
