I've got my axle stand finally started. It will be available to club members too.

Few other details to add, such as casters, expanded metal, couple more struts, etc.

Gotta make some progress here --

Look'n good but will the stand hold those puny axles?

Just saw a guy (on the way to work) who was dumpging a D60 front axle (8 lug). I bet it could have been purchased for 150 bucks or so! It was on his trailer below two water heaters...

It's actually a little better than I thought. My limit will be the caster wheels I get. I think I'm gonna get 290 lb/caster ones that are step. You get a friction insert to the tube and it seats the flange very well. No welding needed.

Stem Caster: Friction-Grip Stem Caster W/Brake, 5" X 1-1/4" Rubber, 7/16" X 1-3/8" Stem, 290#Cap

Simulating 1200 lbs on the top shelf (for the heck of it) and as point loads. Single axle is roughly 500 lbs.

Deflection is just under 3/16" and roughly 16 ksi. Consider yield at 36 ksi for mild steel.

I think I'd like to make an adjustable shelf in the middle. Accomplished by sleeving solid round rod through the legs just like how a book shelf works. Something like that.

Yeah, I'll have an adjustable member for securing the pinion.

Looks like you put too much weight on the middle of the stand, its turning red and melting.

Ready for holding. Few more details to whack on it.

Looks good Carl, do you need 2 mounts with U bolts to weld to your fixture? I cleaned these off of my axle stand and won't need them I am 99% sure I saved them but am not home to check. They would be from the red line up in the picture. Mark

All has a place on the stand too. Made things so much more manageable.
