York Air Compressor:

So I finished my OBA installation this weekend. Put in a York compressor, air tank, hooked up my ARB's to the same manifold, double checked all the fittings. Wired it up. Turned it on, And, it only builds up air to 40 psi, 🙁 It continues to run, it just doesn't build up anymore air pressure. With what air pressure it does have in the system, there are no leaks, that we can tell. Shut the compressor off and it holds the 40 psi.

I have tried finding some help on the net, but with no luck. Anyone have any ideas? Anyone ever rebuild a York compressor?

Sounds like a bad compressor to me. Nothing like the hit or miss at the junk yard. You're welcome to "long term borrow" the compressor I had on the 4Runner to see if it works better. It's just sitting in the shed at this point and unless the economy turns around quick or Kelly gets or job I wont need it for a while. It put out 160 psi without even blinking. It comes with a free dipstick. lol

I tore into the one on the Cruiser to block the oil passage way. They're really not very complex at all. I reused all the old seals but I'd imagine you could buy new ones.

I would check your fluid levels and also make sure your output and input lines on the York are not backwards..

Take the head off and see what you find, its just an engine without fuel and spark plug. I would suspect a leaking valve that might just need cleaning.

I like the leaking valve thought. Here's some pictures of the inside. Pretty simple...

Thanks to everyone that responded. The issue was a blown head gasket. Found a kit at Hust Brothers. Put it in and now she is fixed. Keane thanks for the use of your compressor, but I wont be needing it. At least not right now. 😉
