York on a 22RE

I finally got to work making a bracket to fit a York compressor in the 4Runner. It's not rocket science but with my fab skills anything is hard. 😀 Thanks to my buddy Dale for the help. Here are some pics.

And for those that believe that size matters with a welder. Here's Dale's setup. 😯

It may not be rocket science--but at least you have one at your disposal 8)

I finally found some time to work on the York. There really wasn't a good spot under the hood to mount the manifold/filter setup so I got a bit creative. The homemade bracket is redneck engineering at it's finest but it's solid and actually looks decent. Gold star if you can guess what I made it out of. 😀

At this point I'm just waiting on some fittings and I need to get a belt. I didn't want to pay for Kilby's flange to npt adapters so I bought an adapter that went from the outlet of the york to npt. I couldn't find it locally so I ordered it online. Come on UPS!

Looks good!

If you're looking for fittings, here's where I got mine when I did my OBA:

Good stuff there! That's not where I got my adapters, but they have them too.

It's alive! I aired up my first tire tonight! I didn't time it for an official test and I only did one since the mosquitoes were about to carry me away. 😀 I wired it into my old A/C switch so the engine idles up to about 1,000 rpm when I turn it on. Should be real solid for airing things up. Man I'm stoked! This has been years in the making. If you know anyone that is interested in a CO2 tank, let them know I'll be putting mine up for sale shortly. 8) It's nice to finally be cool like John and Rob.

Hey. Congratulations. I'm glad you finally got it done. Now the club has somebody else to bum air from.

I definitely owe some air at this point. 8) Now I just have to get out wheeling. 🙁

How much did you pay for your oil filter. John is looking for one like your's and mine.

I ended up getting it from Kilby. Seemed pretty steep at first (and their shipping is obscene), but I liked the temperature rating and they're all pricey. The other ones I found were similarly expensive and had a lower temperature rating. I bought the whole kit with the mount and the oil return.

Grainger carries a ton of choices:

It is a nice set up. I really like how you can return the oil to the pump. The quality of the material it is made out of is very solid.

Nice Work, have you tried any air tools? Mine is a 22R with the York mounted where the smog pump goes. Every two years have to swap them for the test.

Where did you mount the air tank? Mine is under the bed just forward of the diff. A real cheapo job

I haven't tried it with much of anything yet. Hopefully today I'll find time to run some tests.

I don't have a tank. I was trying to keep this quality but low dollar. I'll keep my eyes open for a deal and mount a tank later. My plan was to put it in about the same spot you have it. Under the bed kind of where the stock spare tire went. I was worried that it would run funny or over pressurize without a tank, but so far when I'm filling the tires the compressor is on when I'm not it turns off. I couldn't see what pressure it held while airing up, but it must have been ok since it seemed pretty fast. I don't have an ARB so all I plan to use it for is tires at this point.

You think yours is a cheapo job...no one has even guessed what I made the manifold/filter bracket out of yet. 😀

I agree. Kilby seems to have figured out how to put a quality setup together. The one corner that I cut that I'm not stoked about is the connection to the York. Like I said above, I didn't want to pay for their npt fittings. I ordered some ORB fittings that aren't quite right and couldn't find the compression type fittings that I needed. No one has them locally (I went to all three spots that might have them mr-green ) but got tired of driving around and didn't want to order something else without being able to test it out. There's conflicting information out there. I can't believe the internet is wrong! I ended up giving up on trying to find the fittings. I tapped the fittings that came with it from the junk yard. On the inlet I have a 3/8" fitting, but the outlet is a 1/4" which feels a bit small. There's an A/C shop down in Rancho that I went to years ago. I'm sure they'll have the right stuff, I just need to get down there. Of course, after ordering the wrong fittings and driving around I probably spent as much as the Kilby fittings would have cost. embarassed I did meet some cool local folks in the process though. 8)

I can tell you about cheap. My air tank/manifold/regulator/over-pressure valve/gauge is just a small shop compressor without the motor/compressor. Came from a garage sale.

Congrats on the new set up. When I did the OBA on the early bronco it was so nice to have. Its great not to lug around a 20lb CO2 tank and its so much faster. Now I just use my CO2 tank for my welder or take it camping to blow up the kids inflatable toys at the lake or beach.

I finally managed a test run. It takes me about 1 minute 45 seconds to air up a 37x12.50x15 MTR from 8 to 30 psi. 8) I did average 2 to 3 mosquito bites a tire though.
