tried to find a offraod trail book at barnes and noble today with no luck
wherer would i find one where i can just walk in and pick up

Considering the Forest Service has been required to close many trails lately I'd be concerned most published books would be out of date. You could pick up a motor vehicle use map at any Forest Service office or download the maps for Eldorado NF in pdf format here - http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/eldorado/ ... rdb5357470. Other Forest Service offices probably have similar maps.

Sportsmans Warehouse has the Funtrek books on the shelf. Primarily the Northern California backroads and 4wheel drive trail book. It may cover some trails that are closed but the vast majority of the 80+ trails are open.
