Here's a third hand message that Larry needs some help with. Vernon (Larry's Dad) is looking for a picture of how to set up his AEM Brute air filter so that it is smog legal. Apparently the intake isn't long enough? Anyone have any thoughts or pictures? Brad? (here's your chance to run up your post count with actual information)

I called AEM and their products are not CARB certified currently. Rather than messing up your jeep trying to re-install stock items, I suggest buying a K&N system. They are CARB certified and will provide a decal for under the hood that will pass smog. You can get it from 4wd Hardware and use the club discount program.

I have an alternative, but would need to follow up in another section on the board.

The trouble with the K&N system is it occupies the same space as the factory airbox, which many of us have removed to make room for other stuff. The Turbo City intake tube is one of the few I've seen that are CARB approved and frees up the space where the original airbox was.

I run the Turbo City Rocket Tube and it does a great job at filtration. I get 0 dust through the filter. Just make sure that when you get the EO sticker that shows it is smog legal, stick it to the inside of your glove box. The heat under the hood or dirt can destroy it and then you have to try and get another one for smog. They will not smog your Jeep without that little sticker..I know that first hand 👿

K&N provided two stickers. I put one on the inside of center console, and one in the engine compartment. The Engine sticker is metal and stamped, so it shouldn't fade or fall off (hoepfully).
Also, I cut the K&N filter back, but still kept all the smog connections. It passed smog without incedent.
I'd buy whichever is cheaper. My alterntavie was to just buy the K&N filter and ask for the CARB sticker. With those two parts, you'd be done, and for under $100...

I never thought about cutting the K&N back. That is a good idea..I went with the Rocket because of my air compressor, but I think you run yours in the same place as I do mine..

Brad, is there any chance you can show us a picture of your modified K&N?

I run the rocket city intake on mine too, it's the same for 4cyl and 6cyl, you just twist a mounting tab. Mine never had the carb sticker though and I never had a problem with it until this year. There's a web page that you can pull the carb certification from though which is what I ended up having to do. Check the tube size before you modify you K&N setup though, I tried with my old setup and it was too much of a size difference to work with the filter and ended up throwing the old setup away.
Out in the garage collecting parts....

I cut mine too, and don't know how long it should be. I think I'll be ordering the Rock-It intake before my next smog check.

That reminds me. I still have to put my air compressor back in..

I think so. Mine is mounted behind the passenger headlight.

I built a new support bar when I put mine in..

That's a good idea. I think I bent mine. It would have been better to just make a correct one.
Say, can you post some pics of your final 3-link rear? It will probably be a winter project for me, and your set up works well.
