Looked around to see if there was any kind of activity like this. Perhaps its in an obvious place so please feel free to link it to me. Sorry if this has been mentioned already.
I was curious if maybe the group or some other function might conduct clinics for introducing newer people. A way to basically, teach the basics maybe, which I imagine may differ from rig to rig. A clinic to learn about one's own vehicle and get some "feet wet" type thing. Maybe mentor session, as in an experienced person takes on a driver/rig to go through and learn capabilities, perform some maneuvers, or something?
I'm quite fresh to this and while I've some descent understanding, I sure wouldn't mind some extra help. Most importantly to learn the No-Nos, critical things and such. Assessing a trail's access relative to rig and skill level. Must be a number of things. Additionally, I'd particularly like to know if my rig is suitable and ready. Like how to perform a proper inspection prior to running a trail. What is the checklist.
I hope I made sense as I'd like to be a bit lukewarm fish. 🙂
Thanks for any help and direction.

Capital City Mountain Goat Four Wheel Drive Club puts on three weekend safety Clinics a year at at Prairie City SVRA. You could check with them and see if there are any more scheduled that are not on their web site. http://ccmg4wd.org/safety-clinic/

+1 to you Howdy. Thanks for that. I sent in a contact about any further ones this year. Seems they planned for 2 or 3 this year, but only show that one has occurred.
In lieu of making another thread for the time being, do the runs hosted by Posse perform some sort of inspection check prior to starting? I guess I'm looking for whether there is some kind of agenda for each run that takes place, (e.g, all meet trailhead, check vehicles, load up, start xx minutes later, etc.). I'd love to show up to a run and maybe receive a look over just to let me know whether my rig is suitable, that I have what I need, or worse case is...sorry not this time b/c of A. B. C.
I did find the Bylaws and it fills in alot for me on the Club Runs.
# Vehicle Requirements (for each Official Member’s vehicle):
* Be in good working condition. Vehicles with known mechanical problems are discouraged from attending runs.
* Have current vehicle registration and be street legal or current “Green Sticker” for strictly off-road vehicles.
* Maintain current valid vehicle insurance.
* Have front and rear recovery points.
* Have a jack capable of lifting the vehicle.
* Have a full size spare tire. No “temporary” or “donut” spares allowed.
* Have properly functioning seat belts or restraints for all occupants of the vehicle.
* Have a fire extinguisher on board.
* Have an approved recovery strap (Rope or chains is not considered an acceptable alternative to an appropriate strap).# Additional Vehicle Recommendations:
* First Aid Kit
* Hi-Lift type jack.
* Winch
* Air system capable of inflating a tire to street pressure.
* Tools
Rear recovery points are on my list for sure. 🙂 Thanks for the help and feedback.

Come to the next meeting! We'll take a look and voice several different opinions!!!
I've heard Pizza can gain support...
The big deals are recovery points and being good mechanical condition. Most newer rigs meet all the other requirements (maybe not fire extinquisher).
If you have the tow pacage on your Dodge then a D-ring receiver should be sufficient in back. A bumper mounted ball won't count however.

Yes, I have the tow package and that was my plan w/ the D-ring you stated. Gotta save up for that Buckstop bumper. 😀
In looking at the list, the only things I lack really are:
Air system
Winch
Tools (basic set)
The items you reference are not required - but:
Costco and Sams sell a complete toolset in the blowmolded box for $49 to $99.
You can buy a plug in air system from Pep boys or even costco/sams for $60 or so.
We talked about the winch already.

Skip the "plug in" if that means plug into a cigarette lighter. You'll end up with a heavier duty compressor if you get one that clips directly to the battery. If you're looking for a winch and a compressor why not consider the powerplant winch? Pretty pricey, but it's sure a nice setup.

Good point on the clip to battery vs plug in to 12v outlet!
I own a powerplant so I am partial to that option as well - and they make that winch in a 12K model...

Unfortunately, they have not been able to do so for the last 2 years due to upgrades/rebuild at Prairie City. But I know they want to.

I had the MV50 for years before it finally died. Took forever to fill 37s but it was a decent little CO2 backup unit. I flat out abused it (ran it till it overheated cooled it off and started again) and it lasted for several years.

Thanks for the suggested air supplies. I really didn't think they were relatively inexpensive.
I'm trying to get my rig in shape. Bunch of things due for replacement. Taking off this Thursday/Friday to install:
1. Front Ujoints
2. Front Hub Assemblies
3. Front Ball Joints
4. Inner/Outer Tie Rods
5. Track bar
6. Dual Steering Stabilizer
Let me know if that is a bit ambitious! 😯 I'm near the Folsom Tire Pros and plan on alignment there right after (fingers crossed).
I've received no response to the Clinics that were previously put on by CCMG4WD. Only been over the weekend of course. Also, found out that PC is open with the new obstacles or most of it. Found a thread on Pirate4x4.
Oct 14 is Prairie City Appreciation Day -- Free!! <-- Someone more official here could maybe make separate thread about this.
Cross post from Barrett Lake thread as it's related (clinics, learning, n00bs, wheelin', greetin', etc.)

I like people reading the threads and asking questions. If any of the newer people can't make one of those other club's clinics, I am more than willing to meet you out a Prarie City and put on a free one for you. There are many members in the club who'd be more than willing to make a fun morning and lunch out of it at PC. Just let me know and I'll help out!
I'd certainly appreciate and take you up on this offering. My chance to show TomD that I'm at the bottom of the totem pole. For now....I think I'm going to target this PC Appreciation Day. I would imagine alot of activity.

Ok. Let me check my calendar and then post a "clinic" offering for this!
Here are some rules:
We'll go to lunch afterwards, so be prepared to eat somewhere cheap, hang out, and talk about what we just spent the past 4 hours doing.
Bring some drinks if you feel you'll get thirsty.
I'll have a rough agenda, but please bring issues/ideas/concerns you'd like addressed to.
Bring a recovery strap for each rig. I'll get "stuck" and we can learn how to recover a rig.
I think they open at 8am. If so, we can meet at 830 in the staging area at the 4wd entrance.

Crikey! I hope this doesn't disrupt any flow of current/planned Posse events. Very awesome of ya and and the agenda is right up my alley.
Thanks!

Other "experts" are also welcome to attend and share the teaching!
I sure hope the entire 4wd area is now open which will give us more room to experiment.I may invite others too!
Look for a confirmed date here tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone who attended. I think it made for a fun time.
We went through vehicle and trail safety, spotter guidelines, trail terms, airing up and down, common mods, minimum vehicle requirements, had locker and equipment discussions, and a Q&A forum.
Then we headed down to the staging area and ran everyone through the new hillclimb sections. We did some spotting and ran several of the hils both up and down.
Then we went out into the "field" and headed over to a ledge section that had 5 hill climbs from mild to challenging. Everyone ran through most of those sections - we even got at least two great pics of the toughest section being conqured by a JKU and a fullsize bronco.
Last we ran through an offcamber hill climb section on our way back to the lower staging area. There is a new "king of the hill" tabletop that a JKU on 40's has no problem with while a JKU on 38's grenades a rear DL.
The only breakage/damage for the day was a crushed steering stabelizer, my rear DL, and a blate seal on Jeff's front axle. I had a great time.
Also, this event was described as a "non-club function". Just me donating some time with the help of friends. Thanks Jeff and Richard and Huck!
