I'm going to pull the handheld out of my jeep. If you want that model you can have it. If you're looking for a compact standard unit, consider the 510 because it has 7 watts of power rather than the 4 that most units have. I found a 510 on e-bay for $32, including shipping (new), so 4WD is going to be hard pressed to beat that price. The 190 model is only 4 watts...

Are you sure? My understanding is CB has a legal limit of 4 watts. I do prefer my 510 to my old Cobra 75wxst though.
Edit) Uniden's website lists the transmission wattage at 4 watts. Check the specs page here - http://www.uniden.com/cb-radios/40-chan ... pro510xlg/

Hey Brad,
What CBs are those exactly? I just don't know those model numbers.
Can you/anyone provide any input on this CB (good/bad/etc.)?

The uniden pro510 on Quadrateck's site is 7 watts. It is stated in the catalog and confirmed via phone call to them. If the 510 on e-bay is not 7 watts, I'll pay $59 to get the quadrateck version, or pay the Texas shop $30 to juice mine, just like the radio that went with my yellow jeep. With a 4' antenna I could speak with Lee from just past granite bowl to the springs.
I'll take the additional power for sure. My black jeep's radio is pathetic...

I checked the Quadratec site. The 510 has 7 watts audio output, ie. how loud the speaker gets. It doesn't transmit at 7 watts.

Thanks for saving me $59 Fred. I don't care about the audio output. I have an external speaker ready to go in with the unit. I asked the Texas shop if they can Juice a radio I buy from them. We'll see what they say. My last juiced CB came from Nevada, and cost $29 for the upgrade.

Here are various details on a CB alternative:
***for quickest response E-mail us at [email protected] or call us at 702-434-6727
call Mark at the CB Shop 702-434-6727
Karl's CB Shop

send me your radio and i will tweak it for $20 plus whatever
it cost to ship it back to you. Average return wattage is 20-25 watts.
What’s the difference between a Pro510XL and a Pro520XL? I found a new, tweaked 520 for $65.

That sounds like a pretty good deal on the tweaked 520. There's not a whole lot of difference between the 510 and 520. Here's Uniden's CB page so you can read about the differences. http://www.uniden.com/cb-radio.....adios_b2c/
Is that price you found a one-of-a-kind deal or is someone selling a bunch of them?

:hijack:
Assuming that a 4W radio has an effective range of ~5 miles (good wave propagation, Line of Site and no background noise), increasing output to 20W would, in theory, give an effective range of ~11 miles ... it's logarithmic.
In reality, I doubt a manufacturer is going to so overbuild radio components to allow for a 500% increase in power. The operating temperatures (watts=heat) would create issues.
What tuning does is to clean up the output signals making for better communication with the low power signal.
