After I added Toyo tires and beadlock wheels to my Jeep, it seems my brakes weren't up to the extra weight. My last Fordyce trip in October was nerve racking because I could not stop my Jeep coming off ledges or rocks.
With the help of a ton of information from Fred, I decided to try a 2001 Dodge Durango master cylinder which has a 1/4" larger bore. Installed it and was pretty happy with stopping results on the road. I also found some info on larger brake pads that work on the Chevy half ton brakes I run on the front. Wagner MX614 or SX614 from a 1980 to 1990 Chevy Police Cruiser or 1994 to 1996 Chevy Impala will fit and have a considerable more amount of friction material. Installed those, flushed the fluid, and hit the Rubicon this weekend. What a difference! I am real happy with the stopping.
Thanks for the master cylinder info Fred. 8)
Here is a picture of the Brake pads. Stock pads are in the center and the MX614's on the outside. Just thought I would post this up in case anybody wants to try it.

I'm not sure the Durango mc will work on YJ's. I believe there are other options though.
Note: Unless you've changed the size of your calipers or changed from drums to disks, don't mess around with swapping different master cylinders. It may change the way your brake pedal feels but it won't improve your braking.

Lots of fun.... I remember having some sketchy brakes in my rig when I went to the beadlocks and Iroks and dropping down off of ledges. The new rig has 1 ton discs up front and 3/4 ton front brakes out back and a Chevy master cylinder to Toyota conversion and Wilwood proportioning valve, but now I'll have about an extra 1,000 pounds (or more) and some bigger meats to slow down 😉 Also got a cool new 5th disc brake in the mix that will be hanging off the back of the second transfer case
Out in the garage collecting parts....
