I am planning an on board air system and wanted to know what some of your guys recommendations were, especially with the number of legit systems some of you guys had at the last couple of runs. I am currently running a portable Superflow MV50 (chinese? knockoff of previous gen Viair stuff) which appears to share cylinder and head designs/parts with the current 150psi harbor freight portable unit. Lasted for years (most in storage) but it is time for something a little more substantial. I am currently eyeing the Viair 450C with 100% duty cycle and lower flow rate with the 2.5 gallon tank and maybe another 1.5 gallons if I seal my bumpers. So...
-Describe your system
-What compressor (or compressors in at least one case)
-How may gallon tank
-How well does it work
-If you had to start over what would you do differently
-Any recommendations
I will go first:
-Describe your system Portable Compressor
-What compressor Superflow MV50
-How may gallon tank N/A
-How well does it work Good for what it is and damn good for a $50 compressor
-If you had to start over what would you do differently Worked fine with my 33s, skip if larger
-Any recommendations Don't let the thing get too hot, take a few minute break between tires

I've got an ExtremeAire electric compressor and like it. I've got a 2-3 gallon tank too but would probably opt for a smaller tank if I was doing it over again. The current combo isn't enough to run air tools anyways so once the tank's depleted, which happens quickly, I've only got the airflow the compressor can provide.

I had a Viair 480C in my YJ and it worked well.
I'm considering the ARB twin and getting this kit.
If not that, maybe a Viair 444C dual pack.

On my TJ I ran a York compressor, Kilby install kit, and a 5 gallon tank.
All I can say is it was FRACKING AMAZING! 12 years of continued use for lockers, airing up tires, airing up lots of other eople's tires, never gave me a single problem and it was sooo fast. I miss it almost as much as I miss my old Jeep.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

I ran this same compressor with a 1 gal tank on my TJ. It ran great. And it ran continuous.

Thanks for the info guys. I guess I should give an update.
After an absolute ton of web wheeling I ended up coming across a ARB twin compressor mounting bracket for the TJ from M.O.R.E. The location isn't as good and the underseat mount that Kevin has, but I like the clean install. It mounts above the valve cover similar to the SPod for the TJ. I was concerned about heat but I called and spoke with tech's are MORE and with ARB in Seattle. Both said that it is a warm location but the integrated fan is adequate. ARB's own techs signing off on it was enough so I ordered the bracket. At the last club meeting I purchased the ARB twin compressor from On The Road Trucks. All I can say is that On The Road Trucks gave an amazing discount on the ARB. In all I should be into the compressor and bracket for less than I was initially expecting to spend. I will be setting it up with a single chuck under the hood for now but I will probably add a tank as well as front and rear chucks in the future.
-What size lines do you guys use, 1/4" tubing, 3/8" tubing, something else?
-For OBA plumbing did you guys use plastic push-to-fit stuff (air brakes/locker type) or barbed fittings with rubber hose?

Mine use push to fit fittings. The only threads are the single connection to the compressor. No issues so far.
Would you happen to know the brand of the fittings off hand?
I do not. They came as part of the kit. I bought the kit through here but don't see my kit listed anymore. There is a similar air kit listed but with fewer parts I think. My work blocks some sites so I couldn't see the details. 🙁
