When converting to synthetic Winch Rope, Is it necessary to change from a roller style fairlead to a hawse fairlead? I'm thinking that if you don't the synthetic rope could get pinched. But want to make sure.

Not necessarily. You can get Delrin replacement rollers for your fairlead designed for synthetic rope.

As Fred said or make sure your AL roller fairlead is completely free of burrs. Get a new one or file it down. Lastly, make sure it doesn't get pinched.

Some rope vendors also offer rock guards, which is a protective sheath that can slide on the rope for position. Some of the people on Hell Hole run saw mine used on a rock for protection. Also, a heat guard on the leading portion that is on the drum.

I went with Master Pull for various reasons, but there are plenty of other vendors/brands out there like Amsteel and Viking, and of course Warn has own now.

I would say yes you should go to a hawse (sp?) fairlead. you can use a roller fairlead but you'll need to replace the metal rollers with the poly units. The cost savings between the two set ups is about 20 bucks.

Using the metal rollers can result in the rope pinching in the corners, so I wouldn't suggest using them.

I find it easier not to use my winch.
