I inherited this 1955 Willy's. To be brief I am running a Dana 18 transfer case, passenger output with a center Dana 44 rear.
I am happy with the rear as is with full float conversion and detroit locker.
I'm thinking the best option to correct my funky side angle on the short driveshaft is to switch to a center rear outport.
should I swap for a 20 TC, which I understand is a bit longer and had a bit higher gears? Or build a Super 18, 18 guts in 20 case, in which case will that or can that be a center output?
or are there any options I'm missing?
I like the low gearing I have for rock crawling and if anything would like to go a little lower.

If you are going to start with a new transfer case then I would also consider building a dana 300. Adapter aside, you can get 4:1 gears for it and Novak has a super short output flange that gets you between the 18 and 20 in length.
If the 2.46 low range is enough for you then I would look into a offset 44 as well. Modern chromo semi-float shafts are plenty strong for a little CJ so net cost might be in the same range as building a 20 or 300. Spreadsheets aren't all bad.
