i started to install some fender flares today. will i still need flaps to be legal?

Offline I don't think anyone in the club has been ticketed for no mud flaps. A friend of mine was ticketed in Moab though. I think it all depends on what you're doing, how your acting and the officer's perception.
Can you show us a picture looking down the side of your Jeep so we can see how far the tires stick out?

Is it a fix it ticket or something more serious?
Without seeing how much they hang out you'll probably be fine as long as you act/drive like a human being. My Cruiser tires hung out a solid 6" on each side. I'm sure it was a ticket time bomb, but I was ok. 😀

these are 6" flares and my old were 3 1/2". the tires will stick out about an inch.this is a pic of the stock ones.i dont have a good one of the new ones yet.

Offline Your wider flares will probably be fine, unless someone is looking to get you for every little infraction. It looks like you'll have nearly complete coverage. My TJ seems about the same with factory width axles, 8" rims with 3.75" backspacing, 12.5" wide tires and 6" Warn flares.
