I'm doing a couple of fun things today. First we go to the Star Trek Exhibitation. It's suposed to be the largest Star Trek exhibit anywhere. It's time to let out my "inner nerd" 🙂
After that I'm going tire and wheel shopping. I'm leaning towards the 38x14.50x17 Kevlar MT/Rs on a 17x9 wheel. That should be a very doable size of tire for a stock wheelbase Jeep. I may have to do a little trimming to get them to stuff. We'll see what I end up with...
I used to wheel a lot. . .

New car shopping and new tires/wheels?! I've got to get into this teaching gig. 😀
Have fun at the Star Trek thing. Should be some good people watching at the very least.
I won't be having near as much fun. I'm trying to avoid going to a Board meeting and have to figure out a fix for a 1' bust in a grading plan. Anyone know how to make water flow up hill?

The Star Trek exhibit was very cool. They had the bridge setup and I got to sit in Captain Kirk's chair. We got beamed on the transporter pad and walked through the time bridge. It was fun and no crowds. The simulation ride was the best. It did flips and rolls. My kids were too scared to ride it, but it was fun for Elena and me. We laughed the whole time.
I found my tires at GoodYear on Arden. Now I'm on my way to run them over to 4Wheel Parts to mount them on the new wheels. Yes, I am using my club discount

does 4wheel parts not carry mtr's? seems that it would be easier to tell them to price match the goodyear. anyway, did you really go with a 9" rim? im so glad i live on this forum. you guys excite me with all this Christmas in july stuff.... 🙂

Woo-hoo...I had something exciting happen today too. They finally installed our wireless broadband so I have a decent home internet connect that doesn't suck and is faster for $20 less a month. It took them so long because they had to install it in a tree and their tree climber fell out of a tree a while back. 😯

I was going to buy them at 4Wheel Parts, but they were on back-order and a couple of weeks out. So I had Good Year price match them. I still got the wheels at 4Wheel Parts and they gave me a 10% discount. I will be picking them up tomorrow. The guys at Good Year were relieved to not have to mount and balance the new tires 🙂
Keane, with the new connection, I expect your post count to rise at a meteoric pace.

They measure out right at 38". That's two inches bigger than my old 37" MT/Rs. I've seen stock wheelbase Jeeps running 39.5 Iroks before without any problems. I'll probably just have to push my front axle forward a bit and maybe trim a little bit of the rear wheel opening.

They will fit!!! Probably need to bump stop your rear a little. We can use hockey pucks for that, or I have some 3 inch RE lower bump stops that I have never used we can throw on. Your front is the only place that concerns me. That wide of a tire might rub pretty hard on the outside lower corner of your tube fender preventing you from being able to turn if your tires are stuffed. No worries though, we will make them work. You and I got 40's to fit on mine with 4 inches of lift, 38's on yours with 5 1/2 should be a piece of cake You will find out how nice it is to drive over those little rocks in the middle of the road that everyone else has to drive around 😈 😈

Something tells me that he is going to find out very soon

These tires aren't going to blow up your D44 are they???!!! 😯
Actually, I think he will be OK, he will have to taper his driving habits a little, but with the stick shift he will be far better off than if he had an auto. If he had an auto, he would grenade that front eventually. Johns prety good about backing off when he should. Unlike me 😯

I'll have some pics and measurements up by tomorrow afternoon.
I have been pretty rough with my 44 and 37s without a hickup. I think the axle will hold up if I don't get stupid. Lots of guys out there running the 39.5 Iroks on 44s without much problem. I'd bet the MT/R is a little lighter than the Iroks.
