So, I got the Toyos installed yesterday and they are set at 35psi, which is WAY too high I'm sure. What is a good starting point?

Figuring the XJ, loaded, will weigh in around 4000 lbs and the tire specs are 2270lbs @ 35ps, would a good starting pressure be ~29psi?

I run mine at 25 to 28, depending on the load, on the street. I have 35x13.50x15

I ran my Toyo's at 32 and got better gas mileage than my previous tires.

I run my 38" MT/Rs at 30 psi. Why? Because it's a nice round number mr-green

I used to wheel a lot. . .

Hmmmmm ... 24-32psi, that's quite a range. I think I'll start at 30 and see if I can keep from bouncing my back teeth out. Also can see how the tire starts to wear.

BTW, they look GREAT!

If you are not sure here's the super technical method that I read about but it requires a very specialized tool. lol

Take a tire crayon (or whatever they are called) and mark a line across the treads.
Go for a drive.
If it is only worn in the middle, too much air. Let some out.
If the entire line is gone, just right.

That's off the top of my head. Correct me if I missed a step.

Or just start with 30 and see how it feels. mr-green

With my currrent tires I run anywhere from 28-35 depending on what the gauge says on my first tire air up when I check it. Then, I just match the rest to my first tire.

I aired up some K/M2's to 60. Does that help? 😯

Why's it sloppy? It rides on a trailer! mr-green

40 inch tires don't flex much until you get around 8 pounds or less. I wheel at 4 or 5 pounds

I can attest to this. I had to air mine down to 4psi just to get them to start flexing.

I laughed out loud and told my wife I was posting that. She said, I was about to get what I deserve from Rob in response!

That was a much nicer response than I expected.

Ran around the Pismo Dunes this weekend at 6psi ... WHAT A FOOTPRINT! Unless I had to back up a dune, spent the whole time in 2WD.

Returned home Sunday with the tires at 29psi and still have not rubbed off the molding "hairs" on the outer edge of the tire's face. Dare I drop to 26psi?

As posted before 29* didn't get a full footprint on the street so am trying 26* to see what that does.

I had seen that thread before. At this point, I still have the little "hairs" on the outer track.
