I was this close to putting my jeep up for sale today! Sheesh!
Ok. First off, the Jeep was handling dangerously so I couldn't bring friends or family with me on runs. - time to take it in!
My ignition to steering column electronics failed. Need to get that fixed - $550. Ok, It's a jeep thing. I can live with that.
Next, Clock spring over extension code. New clock spring sensor - $225. Ok, I could do that but I passed knowing my D60 has extra left steering that causes that code. No fix - so no charge!
Next, drive tone ring failure and hub movement sensor (this is the cause of all my headaches). The dealer found the problem. Yet another D60 unit bearing failure. Cost $450.
This is now the 6th unit bearing replaced. Total cost is more than $3,000 since I paid labor for the first two and did the next ones myself. This is on top of the $7,700 I paid for the axle in the first place. Oh, AND I've put a total of 8,000 miles on the jeep with my front end. SO, that's 3K for 8000 miles!
But wait, it gets better!! Hang on...

Phase two. 6th unit bearing - time to call Currie and ask what the heck is up with their crappy product!
I call them - they pick right up. I get the first honest guy helping me.
He tells me I need the new competition hubs! Yeah! They are only 850 each. BUT you need to also buy new outer shafts (650) and special drive flanges (300). That's per side! Ok, I can live with those changes assuming they solve my problems - for ever. But noooooo, The drive flanges mean I'm back to a live front end, a la stock jeep. AND, they don't have tone rings, so all the electroncs would fail, throw codes, and cause limp mode. So. competition hubs (and their cost) are a no-go.
So I then ask why the unit bearing/D60 set up sucks so bad. his answer - "you're running 40's and the axle isn't made for that". I state that in previous calls your company boasted that this axle was under your jeeps which run hemi's without any problems. He said, "we don't off road those." My problem is that I run 40s and I off road it". He further stated that less than 1% of these axles sold go on vehicles with 40s which are off roaded! Running 37s with the axle is what it's made for. BS!!!

Phase 3 - So I start looking for front end alternatives that work with 40s, where you actually drive your vehicle instead of trailer it.
G2 - I call and ask them about their special 44. They say it will handle 40s! BUT. The unit bearings are stock Jeep and I'd still need all my outer assembly (outer C's - 600), plus other stock stuff, and a build to accept my coil overs, hydro assist, hi steer and other stuff. Total cost $6,000+...
Dynatrack 60 without unit bearings? 11K.
Jeep 60 is an option. I wonder if their unit bearing fits my axle??!!

So, my jeep will be back this week with everything fixed except the unit bearing. Then I'll order the bearing and have to replace it. So maybe another week and I'll be ok...

Wow, that sucks. Could you sell it and go with the Mopar Ultimate 60?
I'm happy with mine so far and probably have about 8-10K on them.
I run coil overs and hydro assist. This will mean my axle is tougher to sell, plus additional modification costs to get new axle ready cost more money...

It sucks when you spend all that money and don't get exactly what you need due to false claims. One of my toughest decisions was to get rid of the TJ because I knew it was bullet-proof and the new JKs were going through unit bearings and ball joints like tissue paper. That's one of the reasons I'm not overly excited about taking my new Jeep out to "play", at least until somebody comes up with reliable and economical alternatives.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

Forgot about the coil overs. My hydro assist finally shipped and will be here soon. I'll let you know how the ram mounting goes.

Brad, I would sell it and get the Mopar 60 or the Ultimate Dana 60. They have the sensors you need, hub/spindle so you will never have a hub problem again, electric locker and your choice of gears 4.88 or 5.38 all for around $6800-7200 depending on where you buy.
I have seen lots of discussion on curries axles an how they don't hold up to 40s. It is very sad that a company would sell 60's to someone and not stand behind them. The best part is, their new 70's...they run what I assume would be the same unit bearings unless you upgrade to the competitions. Why pay $2000 more for a dana 70 with the same hub built for 37s...
I don't get it.
Um...what?
