Well, the struggle continues...
So the ARB in the Dana 35 of my TJ you see went BOOM at Hell Hole. So I ordered up a new gear set for the RD102 Dana 35 - 27 Spline (Stock Rear). Its on Back Order of course from ARB, but 4 Wheel Parts does a good job pressuring them and I get it in 2 weeks.
Tear down the unit and ouch, 4 of the 8 return springs are destroyed, plus 2 counter sunk screws... Another call to 4WP and I get these parts 2 days later!!!
Put the ARB all together this morning, looks great, slide it in, bolt up the bearing caps, slide the axles up and NOPE, WON'T GO IN!!! Pull out the ARB, grab the axle and try it outside of the axle tubes, and can clearly see, it won't fit. You see, I guess whoever put the ARB in this rear, also put Super 35 Axles in as well. So instead of needing a gear set for a RD102, I need a set for a RD105 Super Dana 35 - 30 Spline.
Call 4WP, was on hold for 15 minutes because of some Super Sale Today... Of course, they don't have a set in their system, and will have to order direct from ARB... The Good News, they will return the other set!!! Now we just wait for the Super 35 Set...
All the while, the Mustang sits, waiting for a clutch job as the throw-out bearing is screaming, and the Jeep is in the way, up on stands in my shop. I need a bigger shop, with a lift, and AC (got a pellet stove in there for winters already), and ...

I have a set of rollers under my racing Mustang SVO inside the same garage... Problem is I can not roll them outside the garage, as it is dirt outside. No worries. It was way too hot to be working on anything this past weekend. If I had thought it out before I started, I would have dropped the SVO on the ground and put it outside. I hate to do that though, as you never know if we are going to get Thunder Showers up here... and we did on Memorial Day.
I am not worried, it will all get done soon enough. I did get some good time in with the wife, and made her a happy camper.

Got the rear all back together on the Jeep!!! 😀
Drove it all around Pollock yesterday testing it out. Got a call to pick up Logan from the wife in Camino as she wanted to go to a friends birthday party... Get to where they are parked and the hood is up on the 98 Dodge Truck. Water everywhere 😥
So I run home and get the 5 gallon water jug for camping and fill it up. Bring it to the truck and start pour some in. Logan says, it coming out over here... Plastic Radiator Tanks are cracked.
Ok, only 3 miles to the house. I will wait a couple of hours, then get it home. No Biggie, head over the O'Reilly's and get a radiator, cap, and antifreeze for $180. Good lesson for her to watch the temp with the AC pulling the hill next time.
Get back to the truck, starts right up!!! Nice, get it rolling and watch the temp. Not bad, should be able to get it home no problem.
What's that ticking ❓
Is that a Rod Knock ❓
Is that SMOKE ❓
Pull it into the yard and shut it down. Say a few choice words
Open the hood and let the smoke clear. Oil on both Exhaust Manifolds is where all the smoke is coming from.
Still have the clutch job on the Convertible Mustang to do, and now an engine for the Dodge. 230K miles on the Dodge with the little 5.2L Guess it had a good life. Found 2 motors yesterday in searching. $800 for one with 130K w/ 1 year warranty from a wrecker in Stockton. Or $1000 for a whole truck with a bad tranny (same year make model, everything) unknown mileage, waiting on call back... Will check Rancho Recyclers Monday.
I need a

Well, 230K is nothing to be sad about!
I think you can do better on the engine. Remember, the same block is used on all 92-01 models. Only differences would be intake manifold and some hookups. If you find a 360, you can use that. Is yours an auto or manual?
Pick and pull always has about 3-4 trucks in there, the one in Rancho at least.

Ask for the PCM to come with it. This will impact some of the PCM functions and will determine the remaining efforts to get rectified.
Ask what tranny they had. This will impact spline count and some controls. Remember there is a break point from 46rH and 46rE (electronic). You want the keep the latter since that is what you have currently.

Got a 5.9 Long Block, fully loaded with all external accessories 😀
Guy already sold the ECU / PCM 😥
Looks like the ECU/PCM's have the same P/N, just programmed different. Called a couple of ECU/PCM shops and started asking questions. Looks like my 5.2 ECU might be able to be programmed as a 5.9 (they are verifying). Info they normally need to reprogram is VIN, which tells them engine size, cal or fed vehicle, trans, 2 or 4wd, etc. Then they also need mileage so it show correct in the odometer reading... Hmm, maybe I should lose 100k miles somewhere in translation 😛
Dodge guys, any of this sound about right as far as you know?
Next, how tough is the actual swap?
Also, looking at a set of CARB approved direct bolt in headers.

Are they worth it? I have a cracked exhaust manifold, and the same side on the new motor was already welded (guess its common).
Thanks,
Brian
