On vacation in San Diego and I ran across a deal I just couldn't pass up. I bought a 2007 Jeep JK 2dr sport, auto. It's got 3700 miles on it. The previous owner pulled it behind his motorhome. It needs a little TLC but considering I paid less than 10k for it, I'm ok with that. I'm driving it home on Monday while Liz and Lauren fly back. First mod will be an oil change and new wipers in case we hit rain. Pics to follow.

Not big fans of the bumper, side rails, lift, or wheels. You can see why its a project.

Haha I think your going to have to keep looking. Reed and I have some plans for this little guy.

The Jeep made it home last night. After driving it for 500 miles there is a laundry list of things we are going to change. Reed and I are looking to get our hands dirty on this one.

How about some details?

D44 rear or a 35?
manual?
AC - I assume
Anything else?

Sounds like a great project. JK's are a piece of cake to work on!

Lets see...

Its pretty much the base of the base models. It has an automatic transmission, air conditioning, basic am/fm CD stereo. It was left under a car port with just a bikini top on for a few years so the roll bar padding, carpet, and seats could use a good cleaning or replacing. The tires have to be the cheapest round things that would hold air the previous owner could get his hands on. Think 5 spare tires. 🙁 No power windows or locks. No cruise control. The axles are D35s probably with a 3.Xx gearing. No lockers. It has some cheezy budget boost(pucks) with white and red shocks. I assume Skyjacker for the lift, but don't see any logos. When they installed the lift they didn't change to an adjustable trackbar so it looks like the rear axle is about an inch off to one side. The ride is a little rough but I'm not sure if its the budget boost, crappy tires, or the fact that the lift is queationable. Or it could be just the ride of a 2dr vs my 4dr.

Here is what we (Reed and I) are thinking right now. I want it to be trail capable, but I know it will see way more running around town than anything.

Going with a 4-5" long arm lift. EVO has a new one so does Rock Krawler. Suggestions welcome.
Thinking used D44s and ARBs 5.13 gears. If we stumble across a smoken deal maybe D60 in rear.
37" or 35" tires KM2 or MTRs on 17"
Used Rubicon Transfer Case
Sway Bar Discos..
Engine/Tranny skid plate
Needs rockers, bumpers, and charcoal canister protection before we hit the trail. I have a winch in the garage once we decide on a bumper.
Installing Cruise Control and Reed wants a better stereo, probably new speakers
CB radio
Seat Covers

I know its a lot but thats why they call it a project.

A BB won't affect your ride, so it's either your shocks or the shorter WB giving you the different feel you reference.

Here's my 2 cents:

This build depends on how "extreme" you want to be. A JK comes stock with basically a mid-arm lift so a BB (which you already have) and tube fenders will easily allow 35's and possibly short 37's like the KM/2s you reference. MT/Rs in 37" may be too tall however.

I was wondering when you'll be dropping the Rock Jock 70 in your JKU to support the hemi? If you do that, then the current 60 with an ARB can drop right in to your new project. the rest I'd focus on is protection but those tube fenders go a long way towards helping protect the jeep as well.

The stereo upgrade is just a bonus.

The MODS have begun...

So Far this week we have installed..

Cruise Control
Daystar Hold Downs

And we purchased 1 new tire, need 3 more before we can put them on. We got a 37x13.5x17 TOYO MT. It was someone selling thier spare that never got used. Now I just got to find four more spares.. 🙂
