Are there any trails in Nor. Cal. that are currently open. I am looking for somewhere that I can do a little wheeling, camp, and fish (so near river, stream, or lake). I have called Forest Service for Sierra (High Lakes Trails), Slick Rock, all the way down to Shaver Lake area, and everything is still closed for winter. Anything more North towards coast?

How hard are you looking for? Based on Carl's call to the FS the TNF is open for business.

When I called forest service (Forest Supervisors Office), they told me it was extended until April 15 due to the recent rain and snow, and could be longer depending on weather. I am planning on heading out the 4/11 - 4/13, so just missing trail opening. I will call again tomorrow and double check. They did say Rubi is open, but not a trail I want to tackle for the first time alone! I am fairly inexperienced, having logged lots of time at Prairie City, but not much on the trails yet.

I don't have a specific difficulty in mind, just want to be able to have some fun on the trail getting to a place to camp and do a little fishing.

Bowman Lake Road has been plowed. Heck, I passed a BMW on the paved part going there a few days ago. BUT - you do have to drive around a "no wheeled vehicles" sign to get there. (Just to keep my rear out of the fire...I had FS permission to go there for work). You could fish at Bowman but it's just a rough Forest Service Road to get there - certainly not a trail. You may also be able to get into Sawmill and Faucherie. Probably a fair amount of snow left on those roads though.

Update to the above post. The "no wheeled vehicles" sign has been taken down.
