The tire I just ruined is under warranty. So, I went to Good Year figuring I could just warranty it for the new MTR in a 17" rim size and use it for a spare until I can afford to replace all 4. (since they don't make the 15" size any more) The "Sales Manager" told me it would mess up my drive train to run a 37-12.50x15 on one side and a 37-12.5x17 on the other. We argued for a good 5 minutes because he couldn't physically/mechanically tell me how it would ruin it except for he said one would spin faster than the other due to the rim difference. Isn't a 37" tire a 37" tire no matter what the rim size? (not counting differences in brands or style or wear)? Once you mount the tire to the rim, it becomes "one". So it shouldn't matter what's in the middle as long as the outside diameter is the same. (give or take an inch).
Am I missing something? Can someone please explain it?
And....he didn't even order me the tire! 😡 He said he is going to try to find me an old style replacement. I told him good luck and walked out.

I know that tire sizes vary, and I know that the Kevlar MTR's run a little bigger than the old style but, that's not the point. This guy was adamant that it's the wheel size that would mess me up. I would bet that all 4 tires on my Jeep right now vary within a half inch. Maybe that's whats messing up my drive train....it's not my heavy foot.

I think the guy knows nothing about tires. Which is sad for a tire shop
Every time I go in there, I know more about tires than they do. They are getting to be like Reibes or Central 4 Wheel Drive...they can't figure anything out unless they can punch a number in to a computer Try buying parts for a Jeep at either of those stores without a model number or if the part isn't stock.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

I think they would be different although I don't think it would be enough to matter. Technically the weight is in a different place. Think of it kind of like this example:

I can't figure out how it would matter though.
