Do you know the weight of your tires?  I may sell mine and buy yours.

Looks like around 90 lbs each, according to the Mickey Thompson site.

K.  Let me do some research.  Since my wheels are 17s, it works for me.

Any reason why you don’t want to go hydro assist?

kevin sure does wheel the crap out of his but I believe his steering box is AGR and PS pump as well.

I don't want the on-road manners of hydro assist.

I have hydro assist.  It works fine on road. It’s just sensitive.  You never have to worry about bump steer either.

Extra expense and complexity that I don't need.

Besides, I don't have bump steer or steering sensitivity.

I used to wheel a lot. . .

My setup is the AGR Xtreme. No PSC except the tie rod clamp. Rides smooth and is not sensitive.

I don't plan on wheeling this Jeep as hard as my last one, and I like the way it drives and wheels with the Big Box/Pump combo. Dropping to 37" tires doesn't bother me either as they will be enough to tackle any of the local trails, save me some gas, regain some power, cheaper to replace, will rub less, and be much easier to drive around and fit into more places. I see it as nothing but a WIN.

Hahaha

You want to hear a funny story?

My power steering pump is fine. Lol

Turns out it is probably a tension-er pulley making the noise. I'll know more today. PSC is still crappy for making me buy a new pump, but WFO is stand-up and won't be charging me anything as they put my old pump back in. I'll probably still be selling my 40s for all the reasons I mentioned before.

Just a quick update...

The Jeep is currently at the dealership. So far, nobody has been able to figure out what is causing the noise.

Sounds great. I wonder if they'll cover that under the lifetime warranty? grin

So, just for clarification, your PSC pump never went out and is still continuing to work as it should? I'm asking because I want one, but not if it's going to break.

Um...what?

Correct, it is still working just fine.

PSC said their pump failed with 40s though.

My pump has only been on Deer Valley, Strawberry, and Fordyce twice, plus some smaller trails. So, time will tell...

Yes. At this point they are just throwing parts at it and seeing what happens. I get a weekly call to tell me what parts they've replaced and that they still have no clue what's causing the noise.

So the latest...

The dealership has changed everything but the steering pump.

WFO changed out the PSC steering pump for another and swears it's NOT the steering pump.

My only other option is to pay somebody to re-install the stock pump. throw-rock

Can you get a video of the noise for us all to hear?  I think you need a hand full of armchair experts to chime in.

Just picture a full-sized RC car.

Seriously, it sounds like an RC car only louder.

John I don’t know if this is going to help or not but if you have a remote power steering reservoir sometimes they have a screen that gets plugged up and cause the power steering to howl or make noise I had this problem on a Chrysler minivan I change the power steering pump and the power steering rack neither of which fix the problem turned out a brand new $15 reservoir from Chrysler quieted it down
