Any reason why you don’t want to go hydro assist?
kevin sure does wheel the crap out of his but I believe his steering box is AGR and PS pump as well.
I don't want the on-road manners of hydro assist.
I have hydro assist. It works fine on road. It’s just sensitive. You never have to worry about bump steer either.
Extra expense and complexity that I don't need.
Besides, I don't have bump steer or steering sensitivity.

I don't plan on wheeling this Jeep as hard as my last one, and I like the way it drives and wheels with the Big Box/Pump combo. Dropping to 37" tires doesn't bother me either as they will be enough to tackle any of the local trails, save me some gas, regain some power, cheaper to replace, will rub less, and be much easier to drive around and fit into more places. I see it as nothing but a WIN.

Hahaha
You want to hear a funny story?
My power steering pump is fine. Lol
Turns out it is probably a tension-er pulley making the noise. I'll know more today. PSC is still crappy for making me buy a new pump, but WFO is stand-up and won't be charging me anything as they put my old pump back in. I'll probably still be selling my 40s for all the reasons I mentioned before.

So, just for clarification, your PSC pump never went out and is still continuing to work as it should? I'm asking because I want one, but not if it's going to break.
Correct, it is still working just fine.
PSC said their pump failed with 40s though.
My pump has only been on Deer Valley, Strawberry, and Fordyce twice, plus some smaller trails. So, time will tell...

Six weeks and counting with my Jeep in the shop.
Ouch! That’s a real downer.
Yes. At this point they are just throwing parts at it and seeing what happens. I get a weekly call to tell me what parts they've replaced and that they still have no clue what's causing the noise.

John I don’t know if this is going to help or not but if you have a remote power steering reservoir sometimes they have a screen that gets plugged up and cause the power steering to howl or make noise I had this problem on a Chrysler minivan I change the power steering pump and the power steering rack neither of which fix the problem turned out a brand new $15 reservoir from Chrysler quieted it down
