RE track bar (front)

If I want to replace the existing RE track bar with a new extreme one, I will have to drill out the mounting bracket holes, both. Is this normal?

I think I already have an extreme duty bar, so this new one is a bit different and has larger diameter holes at the joints. Is this the correct bar?

You have an RE long arm lift, so your's should already be drilled out. Sounds right to me. A part number would help though.

I used to wheel a lot. . .

What's the part number of the trackbar with the larger holes?

Mine's an RE1612 (I think that's the number they gave it). It was a pretty new part at the time I got it. It requires drilling the hole bigger at the axle end and drilling the hole in the RE1611 bracket larger. It's also made with thicker wall tubing than the original RE1610. RE may have merged the 1610 and 1612 part numbers into a single item though.

Brad might know more since he bought one of these trackbars at the same time I did.

Edit) I just read the specs on the RE1610 in their catalog. It does appear the 1610 and 1612 products were merged into a single product. It catalog says the 1610 includes 1/2" hardware which is larger than the original metric bolts used for the trackbar.

I don't have any part numbers. It looks as though I have the metric one on and now I have a new one with 1/2" holes at the joints. The mounting holes are not 1/2", they are smaller.

The only crappy part is that I can't keep one as a spare since the mounting is different.

Sounds like you had the old style 1610 on your Jeep and got the new 1610. You could keep the old one as a spare, just keep the bolts too. You could always put the smaller bolts in the bigger holes. It's not ideal, but should get you off the trail. Another idea might be to drill out the smaller holes in the old trackbar to fit the bigger bolts. I'm not sure if there's enough material in the trackbar ends to do that though.

Buy new joints and bushings for the old trackbar that are set up for the half inch.

Might even try locating some tubing that will slide over the bolt in the drilled out areas to sleeve those two sections. Essentially just building the bolt up at the points where it slides through the mounting points on the axle/frame. :dunno:

Out in the garage collecting parts....

I have decided to use duct tape, jb weld, mabye drill something, and throw in some toyota parts. I am not sure it will work on strawberry trail, but I just want to get through Fordyce one more time. I think I'll hang some of those bull balls things on my track bar for luck.
