Waiting on delivery of my new (to me) 4Runner! Located an '89 4Runner for $600, it's got a blown head gasket in the V6 which is being canned. Got a line on a '99 Tacoma V6 that I'm working on to go in place! Build is going to be slow going for a while as I collect parts, but I've got my base vehicle!
Well.... shortly that is.....
Oh yeah, initial build plans:
'99 Tacoma V6 and manual tranny
Dual Toy cases
D60 front (driver's drop), 5.38 ARB
14 bolt rear, 5.38 ARB
39.5" or 42" Iroks
4-linked front and rear
Haven't decided if it will be coils or airshocks quite yet. Airshocks will be nicer and easier to setup, but the coils will be more cost effective. Have to see how it goes!

I really want your axles. If you get despret or your in a giving mood call me up.
Do you need a little toyota 2wd pickup to drive around in? 😀
Sticker shock happened 😯 Couldn't justify a $10K rig that I was going to sit on the side of the house for a year, :hack: out all of the front suspension, probably throw away the stock t-case, swap the rear axle and then bob the bed/frame. With this, I'm more or less starting with an empty shell and going from there. Probably take me a month to clean all the crap out of it and get it cleaned up to start working on it, but should be a blast!
Both axles are still up for sale - $2500 and you can have 'em both, come get 'em 😉
I'm good on the 2wd pickup though, got my '05 Chevy truck on the 20's for that

Although, I am kind of pissed about something that just happened this evening with the Jeep deal... had a full payment "deposit" on the rest of the Jeep stuff for a guy. Was essentially holding a credit card check for the sale price of all the parts one guy was picking up and he just flaked on the whole thing. I've got a possible second buyer lined up on all of the same parts, plus the stuff he was taking, but just threw a major wrench in the plans. Plus, I've now got two non-running projects on the side of my house
Oh yeah, hey Keane - if you need another rear axle for your 'Yota, let me know - this one's going to get pulled here shortly! No idea what the gears are in the third.... Half contemplating picking up a Taco rear end with an e-locker and keeping my D44 in the front 😈

Let me talk to the wife. That sounds like a good deal. Do you still have the rims and tires?
Sorry, rims and tires are getting delivered to a buddy in the bay area on Sunday. Let me know if you're serious about the axles, after this junk with the guy backing out, I'm only going to hold onto things if I have a cash deposit in hand.

Might take you up on that! Got a big learning curve ahead of me with this one. First generation 4Runner with a 4th generation pickup motor. From what I've been reading, I can probably either go with the gear driven passenger side t-case or go with the driver's side chain driven case. The gear driven setup is way stronger and I would have better prices on t-case configuration. I'm thinking of finding a HP Ford D60, then having it retubed for a driver's drop with identical tube lengths, just swapped sides so I can have standard width shafts.
I remember reading an article back a few years ago where they were building a Toyota for one of the Ultimate Adventure vehicles or something like that and they ended up doing a low pinion front 60 and a high pinion rear 60. Something to do with available, but I can't remember what it was now. Is there anything to look out for when running a high pinion axle in the front on those rigs? I'm keeping an eye out for HP balljoint 60's as well and hoping to get one that I can retube for a rear axle and have dual HP 60's. First things first, have to see how this motor swap works out!

Back one looks just as bad Haven't gathered up enough courage to get in there and clean the crap (and massive spiderwebs) out of the back area 😯 Anybody know if there's a manual way to roll down the electric back window???

Hammer?
Is it a battery problem or something else? In order for it to move, you have to make sure you have the right bolt for the top installed. There's a switch in one of them so you can't move it if you don't have the top on (or the right bolt in).

The engine is pulled out and there is no battery in there right now, was hoping there was some manual handle behind a panel or something. Dang.... Thanks for the info though!

So now I've bought another Toyota! Previous owner was a teenager and apparently fell asleep behind the wheel and ran into the back of a car. They replaced all the problem pieces except for that it pulls to one side, which I don't really care about because the stock stuff is getting ditched! Just put the deposit on it and will be picking it up on Saturday once I've got room cleared at my house to park it. Anybody got a car dolly or trailer I could borrow, otherwise use some of my AAAA Premium towing miles 😀
Details:
1990 Toyota Extra Cab, 3.0 V6 SR5 w/sunroof approx. 160K miles
Color is white, except for the primered replacement fender and hood
Marlin Crawler rear bumper
BentUp rocker guards
BentUp front winch bumper (Kind of mangled, but they threw it in for free)
Ammo can setup in the bed for tools
spray-in bedliner
dang near brand new 33x10.5x15 BFG Mud Terrains and black rockcrawler wheels
Fiberglass pickup bed shell
Newer cd player
All for the grand total of $1500
Plans on this guy:
3.4L '99 V6 w/60K miles swap (currently sitting on the side of my house)
Chevy Dana 60 front, 5.38 gears, ARB (Need to acquire)
Chevy 14 bolt rear, 5.38 gears, ARB (Bare axle sitting in my garage)
39.5" Iroks (Sitting in my shed)
Bobbed bed (Sawzall, cutting wheels and grinders ready!)
Dual gear-driven cases, thinking of just running 2.28 gears in both cases
Wheel the p!ss out of it!
Also be getting rid of these parts:
Sell the tires/wheels it came with
Sell the camper shell it came with
Possibly sell the rocker guards for something that fits a little tighter to the body

I wish I had disposable income! Everything I've bought so far has been a straight across sale part(s) buy part(s) from parting out the Jeep. Other than the sale of parts, the only thing I've got into either project so far is gas money. Trying to be careful and spend only money coming from the Jeep to put into the Toyota(s). The 4Runner though is going to be my son's first car, so he's going to have to start learning to wrench (maybe he can teach John in a couple of years 😉 ) and I'll probably "reclaim" the money from that project to go back into my pickup project. The new truck is still at the previous owner's house until next weekend. Have to get some room back in the side yard for project #2 so the neighbors don't see my chop shop

So far he's what I've got into each project:
'89 4Runner - $600
'99 4Runner 3.4L V6 - $600
'90 Pickup - $1500
'84 Chevy 14 bolt, w ruffstuff disc brake brackets - $80
Engine Stand - $20
Cherry Picker - $100
39.5" Irok's - $850
So, all said and done, I'll have an extra Toyota rear axle from the truck, extra tranny, extra set of 33's and wheels, extra camper shell that will all go back up for sale to fund more swapmeet purchases!
