When it's time to upgrade tires, should I spend the money on 40" tires, new beadlocks, upgrade my front axle, stretch the wheelbase, etc?...
Or should I just go with 37's again and risk the constant breakage?
Or should I shorten my suspension and go back to a 35" tire?
I'm leaning twards 35" tires right now for several reasons. The most important would be buying the new MT/Rs without having to buy new wheels. Also, it would make the local trails more challenging, my axles, hubs, and other components would last longer, and it would be much cheaper.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

I don't know, but I'm going to assume they are at least an inch smaller.
Here's a topic with my meaurements of my new 35" Kevlar MT/R versus my newest old 35" MT/R. I don't know what the specs are for the 37's though.

I personally liked the 37" and stretch combination I was running on the Jeep. Had really good ground clearance and was very stable for climbs. I'm going 40's on the truck though, but that also is because it will have quite a bit longer wheelbase. Going the stretch route is a major pain in the butt though unless you're splitting the stretch difference front to rear. How much stretch are you contemplating? If you're looking at something in the back where you can still run something like a genright tank (and swallow the cost of it!) and pushing your front axle forward a couple of inches, I'd say go for it. If you end up having to rework all of the stuff that I did on my rig, I wouldn't do that again. I ended up losing so much storage room that it was one of the reasons I got rid of the rig (...and power, and SMOG issues, and everything costs twice as much on Jeeps). The one thing I really did like about relocating the tank though was that it enabled me to trim a lot of the low hanging body in the back of the rig and it had a great departure angle, something like 85*
Out in the garage collecting parts....

Sounds like a good first step toward a compromise! You say 44s, she says no new tires, you get 22s!
Sounds about right 🙁
Wow, that's pretty good. I have 33s and ask for 35s, she says no, we compromise and I'm still running 33s. 😀 (just kidding, I haven't asked yet)
