Spare tire question. What if you run trail tires on your rig that are two sizes larger than your spare, what are the mechanical issues? Could you limp your rig back off the trail?

You could limp off the trail, but I would use 4WD sparingly and not lock it.

I used to wheel a lot. . .

I've limped off the trail under far worse conditions than that. 8) 😀

Cal4Wheel requires:

Spare tire within 3 inches diameter of other tires, or, for tires 37" or larger, run-flats or tools to repair/reinflate tire.

Any spare is going to be better than no spare. I think if you are open you shouldn't really have a problem. If you're locked up, that could be different.

Um...what?

I dont usually bring a spare tire with me. 99% of the time it is faster to plug the tire than change it..Cal 4wheel doesnt require a spare tire if you are on 40 inch or larger tires....

When/if I carry one it will be a 37", but I'm also running ARBs front and rear. Similar to Rob it's just easier to carry a bunch of tire patching material than a full size spare. Between the storage space that is lost (39.5" Irok), the extra 100+ lbs of weight in tire and whatever extra tubing/carrier weight (100+ lbs) is involved, it's easier to limp off the trail and call AAA if I really have to. I wouldn't go on an expedition kind of run without a full size spare though....
