Doing some research here.
If you had the option would you go 4.29:1 or 5.22:1?

Offline Both are good, but it depends on the tire size and axle ratios you want to run. I'm happy with my 4-1, but I think Rob has a 5-1 Atlas that he's also happy with.

Offline My Atlas is the 4:3 and if I had to do it over again, I would have gone with a 3:8 or the 3:1..I doubt you would ever use first gear again if you went with a 5:22..John has the 4:1 Tera low and I tink he wheels in 2 and 3rd gear most of the time. My opinion would be the 4:29....

I would have thought the new tires would have balanced out the ratio. Your 37's with the 4.3 to 40's. Isn't that like going down to a 3.8?

Offline I would have thought so too, but I still used 2nd gear with my auto on the last trip to Fordyce. 1rst gear with the 4:3 is still to low for most stuff.

I'd go low, if you've got a five speed there's always another gear to grab. Of course, I like having 2.3:1, 4.7:1, and 10.81:1. 8) Covers just about everything.
