Rob, what kind of tire plug kit do you have? I was thinking about upgrading mine.

Trail Gear :puke: has a decent looking kit for $18. There's also a video at the bottom that shows you how to use them if you haven't seen Rob in action yet.

These guys have two kits that look essentially the same as the TG except for the number of plugs but theirs are at least twice as much.

Any reason to avoid a cheap kit like this?

The cheap one should be fine. Then go buy some quality plugs, like the ones in the ARB kit.

Here's a couple things I noticed about the kits.

The TG kit includes plugs that are 8" long versus the 4" plugs in the other kits. I've only used 4" plugs but I wonder if the 8" plugs would be beneficial.

The TG kit has brown or red plugs where the others are black. I recently plugged a tire on my Honda. All of my plugs came from Walmart embarassed and were pretty old. I tried the brown/red plugs first because they seemed heavier duty. The trouble was they dried out and air leaked through the center of the plug. I re-plugged it with a black plug and it held fine.

Oddly enough, the write up on the bottom of the 4wd Hardware highlights the fact that they're black plugs. I wonder what the difference is?

I think the only real difference between any of those kits is how easy it is to get the plug off of the installation tool. The ones with the slider are easier to get the plug off and into the tire, but with something like a sidewall puncture, I don't know how useful it would be anyway. I've only plugged holes in the tread area of a tire and those sliders are really helpful to get the plug into the tire and off the tool.

Out in the garage collecting parts....
