Heading back to 4-cyl motors?
They ought to offer one model with a very base motor that gets 26 MPG. Then, still sell the better set up that people want!

They need to face facts; People don't buy Wranglers for the "gas mileage".
Besides, speaking of "traditions", didn't Jeep used to put v-8s in their Wranglers? I think they need to re-visit that option.
If they produced a Wrangler with D60s, a V-8 engine, and manual hubs, I'd be the first in line

It's 40-50K now for a base Rubicon. How much would you seriously pay for a hemi D60 Jeep?
If they offerred a Hemi, manual, e-locked REAR D60, front D44 Rubicon model, I'd sell my orange jeep and pay quite a bit for one. I think it would be in the 50s range for a half door-soft top model.

If their going that route they should just offer a 4 banger, 2WD model and call it the Poser!
You joke but seriously I think they should sell it. It would meet the mileage requirements for the model and there would be some people who'd buy one. Plus it would make a great teaser ad car.
Then they should offer a version like I stated above.

While we're at it, let's include serious skid plates and functional bumpers and tire carriers. If the Jeep you mentioned came "turn-key" and all I had to add was a winch, lift and tires, I'd pay $60,000 for it and end up saving a bundle on all those upgrades. I think they could sell a bunch of them for that price, big savings over an AEV built.

I'll be devil's advocate for a moment. I'd actually welcome a lighter weight Jeep Wrangler, as long as it wasn't crippled in the process. Wranglers have been popular towed vehicles for the RV crowd. I've considered a JK Unlimited and think it would be an exceptional towed vehicle except that it's stock weight is near the 5,000 towing capacity of many RV's, including mine. By the time it was accessorized to make it trail worthy it would be well overweight.

Sounds like you'd be against the new small diesel they are discussing adding. Eventhough it would be in the 26MPG range. I bet that adds even more weight.

I like the idea of the diesel but the weight could be prohibitive. If they could keep the Wrangler's overall weight under 4,000 lbs it could work.
