I am headed out to do the Rubicon Trail this weekend with the Jeep Jamboree. I have used my Lockers a handful of times. Seems like I am able to get over most stuff without them but then again I have never done anything like the Rubicon. I have heard that I should be very careful on how and when I use them as the tires will climb up stuff and there is a greater potential to roll your rig. I also get that the front lockers make my rig very difficult to turn when they are on.
Does anybody have any advise on the use of lockers that you could share with me?
Thanks!

Times to turn your lockers on:
When your spotter asks, "Are your lockers turned on?" ... Turn them on.
Or when you think "Oh crap, Mommy I'm scared, I'm going to DIE on that hill." ... Turn them on.
Or when you can't make it over an obstacle and the large group of angry drivers behind you start cursing your name. ... Turn them on.
Or if you start to slide on something scary and you pants start to smell like a Porta-Potty in need of a good clean-out. ... Turn them on.
But seriously, they are just a tool. Like any other part of your Jeep, you get used to them quickly. Knowing how to use the gas pedal, clutch, and brake while wheeling is WAY more difficult than when to turn the lockers on. Just don't forget to turn them off after you finish the obstacle (Lol). You'll have it figured out in no time. Just listen to your spotters.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

Thank you John! Now that is some sound advice!

Hey:FYI, Jeff/Greg's High Sierra Podcast had a really great episode on lockers fairly recently, it was very informative and I really liked it.
Thanks Buck,
I will definately check it out. I have been busy and need to catch up on my High Sierra 4x4 Podcast. I have been a regular listener and find them excellent!

John,
Now having completed the Rubicon I know exactly when to use my lockers... You nailed it in your above response! Fortunately I did not crap my pants but I will admit at times I did come close.
