Does anyone have a set of stock YJ springs laying around they don't want, and would like to donate to my possible spring conversion? Seems that Sunday I tweaked my rear springs with axle wrap. So I have been thinking about converting my Samurai to YJ springs. The extra length will give me some extra flex, and a better ride without the worry of tweaking or axle wrap. For now I'm going to just pound the old ones with a BIG hammer back into usefulness.

If I can't build it, then it's something that should be bought.

Ever think about a traction bar? If the leaf spring is described as "flexy" then spring wrap will also be in the discussion.

Big tires, low gears, good traction can also cause spring wrap.

Yes a traction bar will be in the works, one way or the other. The rear springs are now bent so I'm going to have to do something soon. This weekend I'm going to gently "talk to them" with a hammer and straighten them so I can at least drive it on the road with out messing up my drive line. So rather than buying and sticking with the stock size spring, with the YJ upgrade brackets I can just bolt on the longer YJ springs. With that I can get more flex, the YJ's are 1/2" wider so they should be stronger and with them longer should get a better ride. I am already planning on the traction bar, with some internet looking I'm thinking I can actually build it myself. So if I can get the YJ springs real cheep/free then I can afford to get the conversion brackets. My "purist Suzuki" thinking is starting to go out the window. OH MY !! what's next Toyota axles.... 😯

If I can't build it, then it's something that should be bought.

I'd definitely look into a traction bar. I broke two pinions before I finally got around to it. I hope you're not as slow as me. It was certainly the expensive way to do it.

YJ springs on a Sammy are awesome. But you might as well bolt them to Toyota axles like you already stated.

I saw you eyeballing the tube line at prairie city. 😉

Um...what?

Actually I was, but first before I try I want to be able to crawl all the way up the middle run in one pass no stopping.

If I can I want to try to find a really low cost set of rear YJ springs (help... anyone ??) and do the rear side first. I rather not "fix" the old ones and just take and apply the money to the conversion. Then A traction bar will be going to be put on it before any heavy wheeling.

If I can't build it, then it's something that should be bought.

Found a full set of YJ springs over in Fremont. Picked them up today. Now to build the relocation brackets. Pics when I get back to a desk top

If I can't build it, then it's something that should be bought.
