I think the title should have given you a clue it probably wouldn't fit.  "Jeep Wrongler"smile

Does anyone have a vote on synthetic winch cable versus steel? I've never had a synthetic one and I understand that the sun UV rays can't degrade it over time.

Hey Buck,

A winch cover solves that issue. My 7 year old rope on the TJ is still good. It has been covered religiously over the years to keep dust/dirt, water, UV out. The cover has seen better days but that's what its for. Only about $25 to replace. I've only used the winch about 6 times aside from re-tensioning which I do every year.

From what I hear is that if you use your winch a lot or for other purposes like working on property then go steel.  For occasional purposes like most of us synthetic is the way to go. Less weight, easier to handle, and safer if breaks under tension.

Others can chime in on their opinion.

I just stand back and watch people doing cable recoveries.

I have run winch rope for 20 years or so.  Yes, I always have it covered and use electrical tape for any exposed rope.

Thank you all! I got the synthetic rope version.
