Too bad he isn't active any more...

This past Tuesday I was off for the day and had a couple of hours free. So, I installed leather in the back of my truck! I've never done this before (I've paid people to put leather in, and paid people to swap my interior). It turned out to be a pretty easy project!

I did purchase hog ring plyers adn 250 hog rings for $12. Then I used some cutters and needlenose plyers to remove the old hogrings. Other than sockets to get the seats out of the car, those were the only tools required. Fit was pretty good and it only took aobut 3 hours to do the back. The fronts should be much easier, but I'm putting heated seats in there too while I'm at it.

The leather cost $300.
The seat heaters cost $65.
The tools cost $15.

This was a fairly fun project.

Carl would be proud - Part II

I installed navigation in my truck!

I've done navigation and stereo systems several times in the past, so I expected this process to be pretty easy.

The one wrench in this process was that my new system came with zero install instructions. Ouch!

The install is literally about 20 minutes total, if you knew what was wired where. For me guessing and the "trial and error" method it took me about three hours total. Know what I know now, I could do the swap in under an hour and have it all back together.

My new system was about giving me hands-free calling and music, more than the navigation part. But while I was at it I added the ipod controller, USB ins so I can watch movies stored on SD cards, using a USB connector, and I updated the system to watch movies more often than usual. I should have made a utube video of the install so others in the future could save a ton of time. But now that I'm done everything works and my steering wheel controls are also retained.

Total cost of the system was about $550.
I had all the tools to do the job already.
Not a bad project at all.

Where do you find interior kits like that? I'd like to replace some upholstery in my truck.

Um...what?

Thanks Josh.

If I knew this was as easy as it was, I could have saved $200 and done my jeep myself. Then it would have only cost me $59 to swap in the 2012 interior, instead of $259...
