We need to find out what kind of CB that Troy has, or how he has it hooked up, or what kind of antenna he has, or where he has it mounted When we were at the overlook on Cadilac, we could hear him like he was right next to us. We could hear Brad fairly well too, but not as loud and clear as Troy.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

It would be good to know what Troy's set up is and whether or not the antenna's been tuned. I know Brad's hasn't been tuned recently because he was asking for assistance the other day.
Regardless of equipment and tuning, CB is line of sight communications. Troy could have been in the perfect spot to talk with you while Brad may have had a few more trees/rocks/etc between him and you.

I think Troy has a small Uniden unit. I could receive really well, but people couldn't hear me. I think I'm going to buy a juiced version of the Corba I have..

I've been pleasantly surprised by my Cobra 75 ST. I bought it with the understanding that a handheld device simply wouldn't perform as well as other units. I was ok with that because its primary use was for (very) short range transmissions while on club runs.
I was stunned when a group of us ran Wentworth and were coming down Ice House road towards 50. We were chatting on the CB's, when all of the sudden Oliver (old guy that can be found on a number of trails on any given day) fired up and began talking to us. He was 14 miles away, already on his way home on 50.
