The gas prices are bad and it looks like they will just keep getting worse for a while. It will definately impact the ammount of wheeling I will be doing. However, I'm sure at some point society will throw up their hands in defeat and we'll start drilling again. Also, we will start turning coal into oil. We just have to get past the environmentalists that have our hands tied. Nothing like hitting the pocketbook to change people's values.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

I was telling John that the Sheriff's Department just submitted next years fuel costs. Government analysts estimate that the cost of a gallon of fuel by December will be 7.50 a gallon and by next summer the cost per gallon will be hitting the $10.00 mark. The Department submitted its budget on fuel for next year at a cost of $8.75 a gallon. We will probably be going to doubled units which mean response times will be much slower to calls for service.

$12-15-a-Gallon Gas
Robert Hirsch, an energy advisor, says CNBC morning show prediction was a citation of the 'Dean of Oil Analysts.'

It may be the mother of all doom and gloom gas price predictions: $12 for a gallon of gas is “inevitable.â€

Although Maxwell’s prediction is for the long-term...
Sure, I agree that the prices will be where he states eventually. Back in 1960, it was predicted that the world oil reserves would be exhausted before 2000. There are huge reserves in existence and more are being found each day. If you want to drop oil prices, stop subsedizing ethenol. Ethenol requires a market price of $4.25 to $4.75 for feasability. See any similarities to our prices?
Rob, want to bet a dinner at Claimjumpers on a year-end over/under of $7.50/gallon? I'll take the under!

The United States consumes about 20 million barrels of oil products per day (bbl/d), according to the Department of Energy. Of that, almost half is used for motor gasoline. The rest is used for distillate fuel oil, jet fuel, residual fuel and other oils. Each barrel of oil contains 42 gallons (159 L), which yields 19 to 20 gallons (75 L) of gasoline. So, in the United States, approximately like 178 million gallons of gasoline is consumed every day.
That is a lot of gas 😯

It would be interesting to see how those come out adjusted for inflation.
If gas goes to $7+ a gallon we're in trouble. Food prices will go through the roof and you'll all end up at my house with my wood stove in the winter. 😀
Ethanol will never be a solution. It takes too much water and I doubt we can grow enough to really put a dent in the demand.

Everything I've read says that supply isn't the problem. Most of it seems to be pointed at the fact that the dollar isn't worth much compared to the currency in the rest of the world. :dunno:

I take the under bet with Brad, no problem
We will see. I will also bet that gas will be $6 a gallon by the end of summer. In the last 3 days, the place I fill up went up 13 cents a gallon 😯
