Can anybody tell me a good recommendation for a place to go shooting up 80 or 50? I usually go up to Morman Immigrant but I figured there's lots of snow.
Is the dirt road closure in effect already? I just don't want to get myself in trouble. I'm taking a new shooter out and it's usually easier to not take them to a range for there first time.
Thanks for the help.

Looks like ENF has activated the closure early this year - http://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/eldorado/ ... ?aid=15632

Is there a bunch of snow up there already?? That sounds like fun then.
So why is it better to take a shooter out to a field before taking it out to a range? I'm not kidding, I have a shooter as well that I was going to take to a range, but I heard CA has some wierd rules and I haven't taken the time to look them up. I've heard things like you have to have two people to go to a gun range and stuff like that. In Texas the only rule was don't hit anyone else when you fire it and your ok. 🙂 Seriously though is there a distance from a roadway rule or number of people participating or special permit or ????

Each range has there own rules. Most of them are pretty strict about not pulling from a holster, 1 shot a second, and other various rules. I just enjoy the freedom of being out on my own and obeying my own rules. It's hard to talk and communicate at the range as well. Plus I want to shoot skeet, .22s and a handgun. Plus I like making my own targets instead of shooting at paper all day.
The gun room is a great range in elk grove that scope works at. Very laid back. It's indoor and handguns only for the most part. I've taken an older new shooter there and they did fine.
In California, you can shoot on most BLM land and national forest. There are rules about being aware of where and what your shooting towards. Don't shoot at trees and cary out your garbage. Most of it is common sense.
