It's basically, registering a non street legal vehicle. So I can pay taxes on it. And not get in trouble with law enforcement.

Um...what?

Same thing is done for motorcycles and ATV's. Registered for off road use only. And yes it is a other tax!

Is it really another tax? You pay registration for a vehicle now, so you pay a green sticker fee in lieu of the DMV registration (and it's cheaper).

I want to build a side-by-side that's street legal and licenseable. If successful I would not pay a green sticker fee, but start paying DMV license fees. It seems that while both could be considered a tax, neither is really an "additional" tax becuase it's one or the other as far as I know.

I was thinking of trying to green sticker my Jeep RC. I wonder if DMV would take my money?...

If I'm not mistaken, to Green Sticker a vehicle there still needs to be some kind of VIN or other permanent identifier.
Kind of like having a Registration Number stamped into the tongue of a home-built trailer.

If it doesn't have a vin number, chp will assign it one. That's just another step in the process. If you have a vin, you bypass.

Um...what?

The government is taking your money for something that was once free to do. Legal definition aside this has the leanings of a tax.

I'd forgotten when I was a kid there was no "green sticker" program in Oregon.

X2

I grew up in Idaho and it was free when I lived there. It has changed now as well.

Beware of the red CA stickers. CA limits when and where you can ride!

I'd never heard of the red stickers before today. That looks like a real mess.

Why build instead of buy?

A buddy of mine has a new 4 seater ranger. It's ok but I felt like it was a bit underpowered.

Golf carts are registered as slow speed vehicles and I need a street legal ride that is unrestricted because of the speeds on the packksadlepass road.

I'd buy if they offered one but they don't. The hardest part I found is the DOT approved tires.
