Do you know where it's freezing? I missed the 6" section that came out of the ground into the house and that froze one year. Easy fix. Look for any exposed pipe and wrap it in insulation. Use a high quality tape (that black gorilla tape works great) over the foam and it will last for years and keep the water out. I've also had trouble with the pressure switch freezing. I called the pump place and they said there's not much you can do but keep it warm. It's only a 1/4" pipe so it freezes quick. I leave a light (the old school-non energy efficient kind) on in my pump shed and the large exposed pipes from my tank to the shed are wrapped in electric heat tape and insulation. As I remember, most of your stuff is out in the open. Can you cover it somehow? My neighbor wraps his whole pressure tank/pump setup in insulation and throws a tarp over it.
To actually answer your question. Yes, leaving the water running works. But since you'll be running your pump off and on all night, it'll show up on your power bill and there are cheaper ways to do it.

Thanks Keane. The only exposed part right now is the pipe coming out of the well. I had it wrapped, but the dogs keep chewing off the insulation. We are going to go to Lowes and get one of those fake rocks to put over it. After that, the only exposed part will be the holding tank.
I used to wheel a lot. . .
