Justin's Rubicon run and lack of sleep got me thinking back to a few long days wheeling. What's the longest day you've spent on the trail? Either when something broke or you got so stuck that it just took forever to get out. I guess it could be a be a good long day, but, as they say, "the bad nights take forever, and the good nights don't ever seem to last."
(Bonus points if you know what song the quote is from) 😀

1 - Snow run on Iron Mtn Road - Broken front U-joint (and axle ears). 0 degrees outside and we didn't get home until 130am.
2 - Triple Trail Trek - Some guy in a 4-runner fell apart. I think he had custom body work performed on his passenger door as well. We didn't get home until 3am, and Lee and Pam crashed at our house.
Side note - I think I'm over my 2.18 posts today...

Oh...I forgot about triple trail, maybe because it wasn't my truck.
I've got a tie at the top.
1a. Got stuck in the mud/snow outside of Reno while screwing around in Erics stock Nissan pickup with 31s. No coat, no boots, no recovery equipment, buried to the axles, miles from town and getting dark. I have no idea when we got home, but it was the most impressive mud rooster tails ever thrown by a Nissan when we finally hit pavement! I think he just gave up and threw away the floor mats.
1b. Broken pinion on Fordyce. Took us hours to pull it out. Larry's Jeep couldn't pull me out and that was before I started hanging out with this group so my people to call list was short. I was saved by a guy willing to help for a bottle of top shelf rum. 😀 Again, no idea when we set up camp, but it was late.

How about that day you were strapped out of Strawberry backwards? 😯

1. The Midnight run on the CON, but that was intentional. Got into camp at 5:30 in the morning. Way cool. 8)
2. The longest one day run. I would say the resent Fordyce run. It was just plan fun. Started out at my house at 5:30 am, Got home around 12:00 am.
3. The longest broke down run, would have to be the Rubicon 2 years ago when the rear hub broke and had to be towed out. Long couple of days.
4. The hardest and felt the longest - fixing a cruiser at the bottom of the first river crossing on Fordyce, only because we didn't know exactly what we were doing. But we are pro's at it know. 🙄
But all in all. I would not have traded a single second of any of these runs. Hanging out with friends is what it is all about.

That crossed my mind, but I think the difference was that I knew with the club there I was to be able to get both the Cruiser and myself home. 8)
Stuck in Reno was just dumb because we were so unprepared. It was one of those stories where you see the headline in the newspaper, "Students Found Frozen to Death in their Truck - What a Couple of Idiots." On Fordyce, when Larry hooked me up to his scooter and couldn't pull me, I thought we were in pretty big trouble. They were also both a ton of work. Have you ever unburied a truck using only your hands, some rocks, and a pallet you happened to find?

No, but I did get a new jeep stuck, found out my jack was installed inside my hood and was 190 degrees when I grabbed it. Then, 30 minutes later I took the jack out and discovered it did not work... Jeeps - ya gotta love 'em...

My longest night would be the Fordyce run where the goof-balls in the stock Cherokee ended up riding home with us. We expected to get out of the trail at Committee but the water levels had risen pretty quickly that day. We couldn't turn around because we didn't expect we'd make it back across the water crossings we had gone through earlier in the day. So we forged ahead dealing with snow and fallen trees, and of course those goof-balls. I got home about 6:30 the next morning.

That was hands down the longest run of my life too. But, we got through it by sticking together. A memorable trip that I'll never forget.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

A funny thing was, the guy that rode home with me made sure to take all of his DMV paperwork out of the Cherokee before he left it on the trail. He ended up leaving it in my Jeep. There were titles and registrations in a few different names & addresses for that Jeep in the folder along with various citations. Since I didn't drop him off at his house I didn't know where to return the documents. I ended up going through all the papers and picked the name/address I saw most frequently and mailed them there.

Longest day for me would be that Fordyce trip a few years back. Started off by my ARB solenoid failing (with no spare) and leaving me open on the trail. Took a lot of straps and skinny pedal to get through some lines. Then to make things worse, on the way home my rear driveline bound up and took out my t-case, tranny and bell housing in one big explosion. Oh yeah, sprayed the heck out of John's windshield too! Very odd feeling having the shifter just drop down in your hand.... Luckily was able to get to the side of the road and had a short ride back home in a tow truck.
Out in the garage collecting parts....

Oh yeah, there was also a day where Brad, myself and one other rig, can't remember who were up playing at Iron Mountain. I know John was riding passenger with me at the time. But we got stuck up in the snow, Brad's winchline came apart from the spool and we were stuck looking for bark or anything to put under the tires for traction. We finally got out of there as the sun was going down but thought for sure we were going to be stuck there! No one else made it up that far and we couldn't raise anyone on the CB, was kind of an interesting afternoon I think we broke three shovels that afternoon too

I remember that "shovel testing exercise"! We learned that a good compact shovel is very valuable. We broke all the nifty folding models... 🙄
