So thought to put this here to see if anyone else has gone this way of the....force.
For my droid, video format codec is 3gp (ie., filename.3gp). I copy these to my PC and view them in Windows Media Player (default for most PCs) or in my default media viewer called VLC. These are just programs to watch the video files on your PC. Quicktime can also open these files for viewing.
If you upload directly to YouTube a single video file (either direct from phone or PC), then YouTube handles processing it and for viewing.
However, let's say you want to splice together > 1 3gp video file, which must be done in a media software package like Windows Movie Maker (free from Microsoft you can d/l and instlall or Sony Vegas)? Well, you have to find out whether your media package can open/play the 3gp file as-is. I use Sony Vegas to bring clips together and music. I'm not Pro at all. I try to keep it simple... lol
On this route, Sony Vegas will not open/play 3gp files, thus need a converter to change the file format to one that does operate. Options are to change to AVI, MP4, or WMV. I chose to use MP4 format and the "good" converter programs (yes must find one, d/l, and install) will cost some money. Rather than take that risk right now...I found an online converter and the only con is that you can't do bulk or take a little longer to do.
I found this one: http://www.online-convert.com/
What it does is you select a file to upload for conversion. It processes and converts the file, followed by providing you a link to download the NEW file, which will be *.mp4 for me.
Finally, can use all those files in the media software program to put together. There is probably a much better way, but I just started messing with this stuff and it always takes time...
Sorry for the wall of text, but maybe some of you got some tips.
Thanks

:hijack: At the risk of being thought as knowledgable as Carl ... I most certainly am NOT ... another free converter application for Mac and PC is "MPEG Converter" from Square 5 (www.squared5.com). It will work with Quicktime (.MOV), DV, AVI and MPEG-4.

This is only for those of you that want to merge multiple phone video clips together into a single one. Read another way, if you desire to take phone video clips and edit them in any manner (i.e., title, description, comments, narrate, music, etc.).
This is one of those areas in which there is no single trail to follow. Many acceptable bypasses will get you there the same. 🙂

I'll see if I can get the Mac to trump the PC.

I'm presuming that you have a iPhone and it's default video format is mpeg-4? If that is the case, then video editing that right away is not a problem.
My issue is that the Droid phone format is 3pg. Hence, I need to convert it in order to perform video editing. Also, from the Square 5 program, you have to download it...and at least in writing it does not mention 3pg as an input format.
Not that the online converter I found is better, it just allows be to NOT install another program and it converts the 3pg file to a mp4 file. Additionally, it doesn't care if you are PC or Mac.
