If they've been kept dry there's a good chance they're usable unless the corrosion is bad enough to have eaten through the brass, and as John said, the plastic is still intact.
If they're old and questionable but you want to try them, use them one at a time and make sure the barrel and receiver is clear before using the next one.

Take a picture of a few of the shells and post them, I let you know how old they are and if they look OK. I have shells that I still use that are 25 to 30 years old and they are fine. Alot depends on where they were stored.
If you want to get rid of them, I might take them off your hands depending on how many you have. What Brand, shot size, guage..A lot of time what happens to old shotgun shells is that the primer will corrode and absorb moister getting the powder wet making the shell useless. If you don't want anyone else to have them, then you can take them down to Grassvalley PD or Nevada Co. Sheriff and turn them in for destruction.
