I picked up a 16 gig Sandisk flashdrive at Costco today. It's got something called U3 on it that allows you to install U3 compatible software on it. Then you can run the software on any computer you plug it into. I've never heard of this before. Has anyone used U3? Is it good to have or should I just repartition the flashdrive and get rid of it?

That's the idea. With U3 compatible software on the flashdrive one could plug their flashdrive in to any Windows 2000, XP or Vista computer and run their applications and access their data on the flashdrive as if it was their own computer. Right now it looks like the U3 apps are pretty limited. The downside is U3 is apparently only compatible with Windows, not Linux or Mac. I need to be able to use my drive with Linux so I just removed U3.
You can read more about it at http://www.u3.com if your interested.

I use U3 apps at work. I use Open Office, a calendar/project tracker, and Ewallet to keep all my passwords and stuff confidential that are Law Enforcement sensitive....It comes in pretty handy since not all of our computers are networked and no matter where I am, I can have access to work files and apps to work on them if not installed on the computer I happen to be at.
