I am looking for a headlight for my mountain bike to do some trail riding at night. Some companies advertise their lights by the watts and some by the lumens. Watt should I be looking for?

I found one light that puts out 25 watts

And another that puts out 255 lumens.

How do I know which light is brighter? Thanks guys. rasta

Um...what?

I've read quite a bit about flashlights over on http://www.candlepowerforums.com and there doesn't seem to be an easy way to convert watts to lumens. Watts is a measurement of how much power is consumed where lumens is a measurement of brightness. I found one thread over there that talks about watt to lumen conversion but there are likely to be others too - http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/sho ... p?t=212151

Yikes...that was a lot of physics for this early in the morning. Fourier transforms before 7:30...please post a disclaimer next time. 😀

Thanks for posting the link. There's a lot of information in there. Lumens it is!

“I’ve had a lovely dream,” yawned the private stretching himself at his bunk.
“Who was she?” asked his buddv.
“It wasn’t she. It was a him. I dreamed I was staying at a hotel, and Sergeant. Lumens was the hotel porter.”
“And what happened then?”
“I sent him out in the pouring rain to get me a taxi.” lol

check your toaster to see how many watts it uses, and how little light it gives off.

Closed Mondays.

Thanks for the help. I will have to do more research on the lights.

Um...what?

Lumens is the correct answer. That is how bright the light is.

More Watts does not automatically mean brighter light.

You would need the bulb specifications the get the Lumens per watt number.
