Okay Josh, I took your advice and I researched what my friend was telling me. So here is my understanding of what exists of 4G.
4G has been developed with a standard that has not been reached by any mobile device carriers. Verizon is doing its best to develop the frame work for 4G but has yet been able to meet the standards to be called 4G. Verizon is working on 3GPP LTE. Which is a very fast upgraded 3G. But, it still does not meet the standard of 4G. So instead of calling it 3GPP LTE, Verizon calls it 4G. Which is where we get the marketing idea. I also assume that on the inside of your company it is called 4G.
A good example of this is with AT&T. They had a an "Unlimited data plan" that was not truly unlimited. They were sued over the false marketing but because of loop holes and what not, AT&T was able to call it "Unlimited". They said it was capital "U" Unlimited which was the title of the data package. Not that it was an unlimited data package.
Hopefully I make sense. I'm sure Verizon will be the first 4G provider with the amount of money they are spending on it. But until thy can meet the standards it's a marketing 4G. If you disagree Josh, I would love to hear about it. I enjoy the discussion. I am in know way a technological guy but I do enjoy learning about it.
Um...what?
