Yes, he told me the same thing. I haven't really found out anything yet but continue to want to purchase something. I figure it's not a new engine, so it must be issues with the how it was put in the new platform. But it will all be covered under warranty. So far the things I've read have been positive. Maybe you could ask Don to find out something more specific for us.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

I can't find a single current recall on the 12 wrangler motors. The reliability problems surprise me because this is NOT a new motor. It was in the grand cherokee last year. 'Cars.com is not aware of any recalls for the 2012 Jeep Wrangler. '
From a recent write up:
'Jeep had a 2011 Wrangler Sahara two-door on-hand so that we could do back-to-back road runs against the 2012 model to feel the difference. After giving us this enlightened opportunity, we came away realizing that the 2011 with its heavy, 202-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 is a bit of a toad. Whereas this outgoing motor feels like it's pushing us as best it can with great effort, the 285-hp Pentastar V6's flatter 260 pound-feet of torque eagerly pulls us along and asks for more. Overtaking traffic is now a matter of simply depressing the pedal and gobbling, whereas the old motor requires a floor-punch and a crossing of the fingers since flooring it produces a lot of impressive noise but little added urgency. At 70 mph in top gear, the 3.8 is noticeably louder at 2,500 rpm, while the Pentastar sits calmly at 2,000 rpm. In towing, too, the two-door Pentastar's 2,000-pound maximum (3,500 lbs. in the four-door with 3:73 axle) doubles what the 3.8 can pull.
One Jeep representative told us that the configuration of the Pentastar 60-degree V6 with its lower backpressure exhaust is going to be an aftermarket sweetheart thanks largely to the easier mounting of any forced-induction performance bits. The alternator is now mounted up top and faces toward the back. This is a new Pentastar setup required by packaging dimensions, and a full-face air-conditioning compressor has been introduced, significantly upgrading the Wrangler's ability to cool itself quickly under the boiling dusty sun.'
I would argue that the issues with the motor are no more different than issues with other parts of any wrangler. Here are some issues with past JK's -
Chrysler recently dodged the recall bullet when the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration decided that the automaker didn't have to recall 2007 and 2008 model year Jeep Wranglers for reported fuel leaks. Good news for Chrysler, but while that fuel issue wasn't deemed worthy of a recall, a new drivetrain problem is.
The automaker is recalling 20,459 2010 and 2011 Jeep Wranglers for improperly torqued front and rear axle fasteners. NHTSA says the maladjusted fasteners could result in "noise, or ultimately, degradation in steering and handling characteristics." If this situation isn't dealt with, the vehicle could lose steering control, which could result in an accident. The crop of affected Wranglers were built between July 12 and September 10, 2010.
To remedy this situation, a Chrysler dealer will re-torque all 19 fasteners to the maximum torque value – free of charge, of course. Hit the jump read NHTSA's official statement.

It should work with the Tread Lightly program! Also, I got an e-mail in addition to a mailed letter.

Pay $60 for a 3-year membership. Get your membership ID number. Go to a dealer that honors the program (like Magnussen in Auburn) and tell them you want to participate in that program. The dealer pulls the invoice for the jeep you want (or the invoice when the jeep you order arrives) and knocks 2% off the invoice cost. Then you hand them this additional $500 back card - and get 2% below invoice + $500 back on your 2012 JKU!
You are happy and take your wife out to dinner...
Jeep is $33K MSRP. Invoice is usually about $30K for it (that's the numbers from my 08JKU). 2% off a 30K invoice is $600. $600 + $500 is $1100 below invoice. you'd be looking at $28,900 +T&L for a $33K stickered JKU.

I just got my Tread Lightly info in the mail and the discount is 1% below factory invoice. It also says you need to be a member for at least 30 days. Not sure how that applies if you order one, which I was told would take 6-8 weeks.
Who was issuing the extra $500 cash back?
I noticed this in your post...
"Certificate is valid for the person named on certificate and is transferable only to immediate family members within the same household with proof of address."

I thought the 3-year tread lightly membership got the 2%?
I received a mailing for $500 and an e-mail for $500. Not too hard to "print out" the e-mail for you...
When I bought my jeep I paid $250 over invoice, but got a $750 rebate. So I ended up at $500 under invoice for my 08. The price was $29,500 for me at that time. For my TJ, I ordered it in August of 99 as a 2000 model so I go zero rebates, but I paid invoice for it.
Magnussen seems much more positive in dealing with you on these discounts. Maybe Don has some pull in Folsom. The Roseville dealership - not so much...

The best I can find is $500 bonus cash and 0% for 36 months on Wranglers, 60 months on other models.
Hardcopy mailing I received had the 0 for 72.
E-mail just said zero percent financing...
My CU is offering 2.9 for 84 months. That will probably be the lowest payment.
$400 a month will get you a $30,280 loan with zero down.
$425 a month will get you a $32,175 loan with zero down.

Why let go of your Tundra? You CAN have BOTH!
I see a Subaru that that can go, and a wife who's ok driving trucks - wasn't that old blue ford her's originally? This is a huge step up from that truck!!
While on the subject - what is the tire size on your Tundra?
