It seems that pretty much every time I have shut down my computer for the past week or so it needs to install an update. Do they really roll them out that often? Sometimes I'll shut it down and then need to shut it down again in the same day. Seems fishy to me. Anyway to tell if it's legit or just some Microsoft screw up? I'm running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004.

Come on...Dan, Fred, someone? This is the culprit --> KB967715. It keeps downloading and installing it over and over and over and over and over...

I can find a bunch of chat board topics on it, but I'm not smart enough to fix the problem. 🙁

I think this has to do with Roswell, NM and Black Helicopters.

Wait...after running every spyware program I have, disabling any roxio software, downloading it onto my computer and installing it in Safe Mode I think it has worked. What a pain! At least I have now corrected "disable Autorun registry key" enforcement in Windows. The world is a better place now. I hope Bill Gates is happy. 🙄

Sorry I couldn't get to this thread, I had to keep rebooting my computer. lol Nah, we were camping on the coast this weekend.

Typically Microsoft rolls out their updates on Tuesday's, known as Patch Tuesdays. I experienced a little of what you describe in the last week or so myself. I suspected that Microsoft found their patches needed patches and sent them out right away.

You may want to check your update history to make sure it isn't the KB967715 patch. Apparently, it's a real problem and many machines can't install it so they just keep on trying.

That's usually a good call. Especially the security ones!
