Yep, it's another Keane lives in the sticks and wants better internet thread. 😀 Anybody familiar with fixed broadband? Turns out since they installed a new tower we may now have line of sight. It looks like a significant upgrade. We're looking at Smarter Broadband (http://www.smarterbroadband.com/FAQ.htm). Anybody use it or a similar service? We're using satellite now and I'm about done with it. Latency is terrible, speed is slow, the reliability is low, and it's really expensive. Are you familiar with their Accelerated Browsing (Bursting) technology? Makes sense, does it work? Any thoughts?

We got the WISP installed yesterday. The speed is about thousand times faster than the satellite but I'm pretty disappointed with their install work. They had to put it in a tree, made a mess with the branches and just left them laying there, simply threw the wire down instead of making any effort to hide it, anchored it above the sliding glass door so I have to look at it ever time I walk out, and cut the connections off of the wire I was using for the old connection. They're coming out tomorrow so we can "discuss" it. They said this was their first complaint every and called Kelly a liar. We told them we were going to dispute the charge on the credit card and they suddenly got more friendly...or at least more quiet. We'll see how it goes.

They came out and took care of the problem. Very solid company. Speeds are great. I got 4.69 megs down and 1.07 up a few minutes ago. That's before I ran out of the "burst" but it's great!!! After the "burst" I got 690k down and 940k up. The "burst" lasts for about 2-3 minutes of video. The old satellite would run less than 100k all the time and one time I tested it and it was below 50k.
