There was a question last night about other trails the club could maintain...
Our club is very lucky to have it's own adopt-a-trail, especially one of the major routes. All the major trails have been adopted and probably the only ones left are going to be over-grown dirt roads. But, larger trails like the Rubicon and Fordyce are always having 'work days' and will gladly accept volunteers.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

I'm uncertain if Posse should/would take on a further adoption. It would be good to know who the sponsors are for those trails. You have access to that information? Possible a sponsor stops maintaining just like with how Posse came to take on Strawberry. Was it Dana that was mentioned in the meeting that maintains that information or is it online?
I'd be interested in helping out the "little" trails. For instance, I was speaking with a coworker today and I had mentioned Caldor and Grizzly Flats areas, places I've never been, and he said trails in those areas are generally over grown. Is it worth "pitching" in on those? I'm not suggesting Posse sponsor such things if its of no interest, but I'd like to find out how to go help out.

Carl, I would help out if the need arose. I'm interested in new trails.

I believe we should consider supporting the Barrett Lake maintenance because it's an excellent trail that doesn't have the same visibility as Fordyce or the Rubicon, so it has fewer people willing to step up and help out. It's also very run to run.
Stepping up to own another trail would be very time consuming, especially if it's in poor condition initially. The old timers here should remember the work we had to put in to Strawberry when we first got it, and the days off work I took in my first year to work with the USFS in getting them up there to make suggestions for improvement and see what we were doing and were planning to do.

Bump!
I was able to leave a vmail with Catherine Bounds as I am still interested in the "little" trails that need TLC. She responded and forwarded me to Kyle Johnson.
I have requested what trails and priority that he may think could benefit from said TLC. Upon receiving that info (hopefully) then can determine if anyone in GHP is still interested in an activity under the name or be done w/o association. I just want to get out there really.
Thanks!

This would be an item George could ask our USFS rep. They would have the list of trails and clubs that sponsor them.

I would be against actively going out to maintain trails we don't have a contract with the USFS for, or trails we don't coordinate with the host club for. The reason is liability.
If we are assisting another club we should be fine, as it is their club that has the USFS agreement.
We came across this issue with the long canyon trail - where the host club stopped work on it several years ago and a couple of us were going to head up there and clean it up. We decided that any work we were going to do was unrelated to the GHP, and just an informal group of wheelers making a trail more accessable.

Brad,
Thanks for sharing the past experience of Long Canyon as that is a good reference for Posse's position. Posse doesn't and shouldn't take on more effort if it's not interested. Thanks for quoting that portion for it's relevancy.
I was still left with not knowing what those "other" trails are that were mentioned at that May meeting, which I queried here about. I'd like to know how to volunteer for an opportunity and so I took the "do it myself" approach in finding out. I definitely made reference to George in my contact to Catherine and Kyle and made sure I was not "volunteering" Posse up front for this effort. Only that I came across this topic as a result of being a member of Posse and a desire to seek out available opportunities.
I can certainly forward my request to George. I have not received anything back.

All the Jeeps have made it through before, even Rob with his full-width axles and 40 inch tires. The Dodge trucks may have an issue though.
That's Good to know
